N4: Getting horidzontal lines in OpenGL :-)

by pw » Sun, 11 Mar 2001 16:25:50

Hi,

Just tried Nascar 4 in Open GL at 32 bit color (Ran the test for
16-bit and it locked up my PC!!! Oh well, 32-bit will do <g>).

No crashes for once, only one lock up (where you can hear the engine,
but you can't do any thing - got that in D3D too).  Looked about as
good as D3D.  But, the screen is flashing in OpenGL.  I guess some
would call it "banding".

How can I remedy this?

Athlon 700
256MB RAM
Hercules Prophet II GTS 64MB DDR RAM Pro
Direct X 8.0a
Win 98SE

Thanks!

-paul

Disable vertical synch.
Also, you probably have our desktop resolution set at 32 bit, change it to
16 and you should be able to select 16 bit color in the sim ok, and would
get better performance.

Some people do nothing wrong.
The problem is, they do nothing.
And THAT is wrong.

Thanks!  That got rid of the flashes.  But now, the game locks up
almost immediately!

I think this one is going to get returned for a refund guys!

What soundcard and sound settings are you running?
If your using 3d sound, try it without and see if that helps.

Diamond MonsterSound MX300.  Running it in Direct Sound, 3D sound is
not checked, max sound = 8 channels (?).

Thanks!
