Error message getting N4 to go online

by Tex » Thu, 22 Feb 2001 01:57:33

Hi all.  After practicing up in N4 off-line, I tried earlier today to take
the plunge and go on-line.  I got myself registered at WON.net through the
link on the N4 multiplayer screen, but when I tried to connect using my ID
and password, I got the message that my N4 installation has either been
modified or is out of date and that a patch may be available.  So then I let
it go look for a patch and it comes back saying that there is no patch
available.  The only modifying I did was to download the complete set of
cars to round out my off-line races and update the 'beer cars' of Marlin,
Dale Jr., and Rusty.  Could this be causing this connection problem?  Oh,
and I bought the game at EB, so it's not like I'm using a warez version.

Any help is appreciated, as I've been reading how much more fun this game is
on-line than off-line.  Thanks in advance!

Adding new cars would not do this..

Have you installed the no-cd patch?  You may also want to scan your system
for viruses.. a virus can edit the crc of a file thus causing Sierra.com to
think it is wrong.

That's it!  I was using the no-CD patch, and now it works fine running with
the regular exe and the disk in the drive.  I can't believe I didn't think
of that.  I hate constantly swapping CD's, but I guess it's worth it for
going on-line in N4.

Thanks for the help!
