N2: Upgrade from a P5 233 MMX to a Pentium II 266 with AGP

Have any N2 drivers moved from a P5 233 MMX based system to a Pentium II 266
with AGP.  If so, is the performance increase in N2 significant or marginal.
I'm interested in learning if a P5 233 MMX with a Voodoo 2 card plugged in a
33mhz PCI slot will be much different from a PII 266 with a Voodoo 2 card
plugged in an AGP port running at 66mhz.  The current dollar difference
between the mainboard-processcor systems is about $500.  Is the increased
PII performance in N2 worth $500.  I realize the PII offers advantages for
future sim releases, but I do not want to use this advantage as a factor in
the current performance issue.  Thanks.

I'm sure one of the Voodoo gurus knows for sure, but at least for the first
releases of Voodoo2's, does it support agp??  I know the 2 board SLI setup is
PCI only so if your thinking of sticking a V2 into an agp slot...I'd think
again.  And nobody knows what performance you'll get because the 3dfx port of N2
is still on hold.  Once that comes out we'll begin to get an idea of what the
different systems can do....
Probably a setup like a Riva for AGP and V2 for every thing else would be an
optimal setup...personally, I'm going Diamond Stealth II, not because of its
stellar 2d/3d. but because it does N2/ICR2/GPLetc cheaply and hopefully I can
then afford a V2 for everything else.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your response.

I was entertaining the idea of a V2 in an AGP port because of the answer
given to the FAQ V2 question:
"5. My system has an AGP (Advanced Graphics Port) slot. Will the V2 fit in
there?"
Here's a link to the answer given in V2's FAQ.

I like your configuration idea.  I'm beginning to lean toward sticking with
the P5 till the end of the year.
