GP2 and Pentium II 266

Hello Everyone...

Just received my Dell P6 II 266Mhz with 64MB RAM and Matrox
Mill with 4MB and a EIDE HD.  I installed the game in the optimal
install and checked the graphic options.  In SVGA with all details
(incl. sky) it gave an estimate frame rate of 21.6 !!!  I started a
race at SPA right away and noticed that the OR was around 120 to 135%.
Started the race and the OR settled to 100 to 110%.  Fairly good so
far.

Went back into the graphics options and turned off some
textures in the mirrors and turned off that sky.  Estimated frame rate
was greater than 25.6 so I started at SPA again.  At the start of the
race the OR was 95 to 105% and settled to 75 to 85% during the race.
The camera shots are much more fluid than my "old" P6 Pro 200 and the
speed sensation is great.  I have not tried any other tracks or
settings as I am still configuring and tweaking the system.  I will
have much more info next week.  E:mail me if you are interested and I
will tell you all more next week.

Enjoy all the "real" racing this weekend.

Been a little disappointed in all the negative posts of late, but it's
this type of info that gets me e***d about future simracin'. I reckon
we'll get a gp3, but maybe not for 2 or more years imo. But so what. Except
for it's pitiful modem support, gp2 is a dynamite sim, and I for one am
lookin' forward to takin' *** square with a cpu running at 4-500MHz (
which ain't too far away !! ) he he he !!

Phil

Don't look back, they may be gainin' on ya !!

Hi Oliver,

I'm getting pretty much exactly the same values with an overclocked P5-225
MMX.

How come hardware is so far behind the software?  Or is it that software
is not optimized for speed?

I can't understand why your machine is so slow? I have a Dell 200 pro,
32mb .. etc.. and the game never takes over 80%.. At any time.. Most of
the time its around 60%, and I run full graphics.. If I run in the Svga
mode, I still get better than 100%..

Yours is so fast because you have a DELL.  DELL rocks.  Probably the
best overall PC doing company, always being the first to introduce the
new technologies (ex: there were in the 3first to sell the Pentium II).
People should stop buying Crapard Bell and Aptiva's.  My 2.  Why pay
200$ for an cheap 2meg video card with an Aptiva when you can have a
Matrox Millenium 8meg or Imagine 9fx motion 771 8meg for the same price?
This is an advice for ALL simracers who maybe will change their PC in
the next months.  Go to http://www.racesimcentral.net/;Compare the prices to IBM
and others.  It will blow up your mind.  Portable computers too.
Finally, an other company who makes great quality/price PC is Gateway
2000 and AST.  Thanks a lot,

Good race at the Brickyard,  (-o-)
