F1 2k2 ranking..dang near everyone uses helps?

What are the recomended help levels for F1 2k2.  I'm just finally trying
it out...at Spa I submitted a lap that put me 700+ outta about a 1000.
(don't worry folks I just KNOW I can get into the 690's)
Anyhow, after I filtered out all but low TC and low stability + clutch,  I
was suddenly 31st outta about 60.
Am I reading that right?  out of 1000 users only a handful are running
with minimal aids on?  I should go back and see what the amount of users are
that use NO driving aids.
second question:  the web site lists
0
1
2
*
for each drivng aid, I'm assuming they equal:
0 = no aid enabled for that feature
1 = LOW level aid
2 = High Level aid
* =  wildcard,  any or none.
Is that a proper reading of the EA website?

btw...the lap I submitted also seems to have High ABS brakes enabled(2) but
I checked twice and it was NOT turned on...  Have I scrambled something in
my install already??

Hey Dave.
Kinda sad isn't it? I only use clutch and Inv. I don't have time for stalls
or crashes :)
Like on the F12001 telemetry site.
I don't know what the * means, could be as you say.
There are only a very few who use absolutely no aids.
as far as your ABS thing, use the hotkey to cycle through and make sure the
abs is off before you leave the pits.
I'm sorry I don't know for sure which is the right one, but it is one of the
F1-F10 keys. If you have the message center turned on it will tell you as
you go.

Holy crap, out of all the people who only use low traction control at SPA,
I'm ranked #1 - woohoo!

And auto shifting -- now they even change shifting points from the pits
during races, if required...

I just got it, so I can't tell yet, but that sounds about right for me too.

I think I heard that F1 is outlawing Traction Control next year.  Should be
interesting, especially during races in the rain :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about autoshifting ! Thanks for reminding me :)
Next thing you know, all the drivers will be sat behind a PC monitor driving
cars that are radio controlled ;)

The thing that got me, was the steering help, eliminating that from the
ranking page cut off guys who where 10 seconds faster than the NON steering
aid users.  It sounds like with steering help on you just floor the gas and
let the computer get you around the track.   Not very representative of a
drivng ranking.
So I was curious just what acceptable aids would be...low level traction,
autoshifts and  that's it?(clutch of course for us two pedal folks)

Dave-
Go back to the F12001 telemetry/rankings.

"This is a list of BANNED driving aids...

Braking Point Assistance, Traction Control (HIGH)
Anti-Lock Braking, Steering Help, Opposite Lock Help
and Stability Control.

The use of any of these aids for all (or part) of a lap
will not allow that lap to be uploaded."

seemed to be a better way, imo.

I also race without aids, its much more satisfying to do a badass lap
without any extra help.

i'd recommend the parachute help, at least when you try this game as flight
simulator, see here:

Personally, I think that's reasonable.
