SMOKIN'

This video card is going in a customer sim we are building, I bought two
cards......installed one at my office/graphics desk rig where I can run most
open wheel stuff, so I can understand the tech stuff (first time I've owned
an ATI card).  This video card is the most amazing piece of computer
equipment of all time.....that I've ever bought (IMHO).

F1-C, with Ralph H. carset:

at 1600x1200x32 with 4x FSAA and 8xAnistropic:  46.8 m/Tri = 67 fps (pits)
and 71 fps-94 fps at Silverstone (test day -6 cars)

.....and absolutely "Kodak" quality graphics with no jaggies and no
flashing.....NONE!

This is the best $537 ($499 plus sales tax) I have ever spent on a piece of
computer hardware!  I removed an Nv-TI-4200 (128mb), OC'd to max, and this
is no slouch video card.  But, that card with the above settings gave me an
FPS, at Silverstone test day.....of about 15 FPS...max!  I normally ran it
at 1200x1024x16 with Quincx-FSAA and no Anisotropic to achieve mid-40's FPS
with mild jaggies and lots of flashing...it would drop to mid-30's with one
or two cars in front.

Consider me just plain blown away by the performance of this video card.

Except the 9800proAIW is $300 as we speak, and 9800pro is $250.  Don't
mean to spoil your joy :)

RMS,

I wasn't speaking of it being "the best" because it was cheap and I was
fully aware of the "pro" card options.  However, they have the old cooling
system and run much hotter.....there are reasons I can not use them for that
reason alone.  I also wanted the "fastest" card and the XT has better OC'd
capability (at least according to reviews and benchmarks I read over before
buying the cards).  Money was not a factor in my decision, but performance
and cool operation was.  For those two reason, the XT was the correct
decision.  I just did not expect it to run F1-C as fast as it does (at max
eye candy on everything, including screen res).

I will be buying the Radeon next-generation, PCI-Express cards as soon as
they come out.  And I know that is only about 5 months away.

I couldn't be any happier with the AIW 9700 Pro. I too am hoping this will
"handle it" until PCI Express

The 9700 Pro is a great card for the money.  I've seen many benchmarks where
it is nearly as fast as a 9800, and at a decent price/

I plan to get one of these as soon as the "Ultimate" version with the
silent/fanless cooling system is released.

True, but the 9700/9800 technology is getting quite old now.  Won't be long
before ATI release their next generation card....

Probably true...  Since it always is :)

I was going to build up a new machine last month, but decided that what I
have can hold out until the newest systems with the new PCI Bus and video
cards come out.

I _think_ they are supposed to trickle in in the first or second quarter.
