GPL and New Radeon Drivers - Good News.

For those of you who had been experiencing graphic glitches in GPL when
using a Radeon vidcard, there's good news.  The new Catalyst 3.5 drivers
appear to have addressed the problems.

Whereas until now  you had to set the D3D Texture Slider all the way to
"Performance" in order to not have trackside objects with gaping holes,
you can now have the slider all the way to "High Quality".  No more
adjusting your settings back and forth between GPL and more modern sims.

For reference, my system is a Radeon 9700Pro under WinXP Pro.

I never saw this with earlier drivers.  Is the occasional menu
corruption gone?

On my system, the occassional menu corruption seems to be gone, as well.

I used to run the Catalyst until v3.4 where I experienced some fatal
glitches in certain games and then tried the Omega drivers. They are
based on the Catalyst drivers and supposedly run safer than the
Catalyst. I can confirm that they are safer and just as fast. Overall,
I'm very pleased with the Omega effort. After some install nightmares
with the Catalyst drivers I plan to continue using the Omega drivers.
The current Omega driver is equivalent to the Catalyst 3.4 and benches
faster on my system than the Catalyst 3.5.

Never had that problem with the Omega drivers.

Same vid card with Win2K pro.

I tied the Omega drivers at one point, but went back to ATI's because I
thought that the graphics quality of the Omega's were not quite up to ATI's.
I also had some other problem with them that I can't quite recall right now.

One advantage that the Omega drivers had was that you could just install them
over older drivers where ATI required a manual uninstall most of the time.
However, in the case of the 3.5's I just installed them over the default XP
Radeon drivers, and have had no problems.
