Voodoo3 2000: Good Buy?

by Richard marcha » Tue, 18 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

I'm interested in buying a Voodoo3 2000. Does peoples in this
newsgroup have recommendation about this card.

My principles games: GPL, Nascar (99, 3, Legends), SCGT, F1 2000,
Monaco Racing Sim 2, Falcon 4, F-15, Mig Alley, F-22ADF, European Air
War, Unreal Tournament, Myth, East Front 2, West Front, Rising Sun,
etc... :-)

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

I just saw brandnew V3000's for 139 US dollars.  Either one you can't
go wrong for your list of games.  Only Unreal Tournament on that list
would run better with a GeForce and some of those might not run at all
EXCEPT witha 3dfx product(Myth, F15 N99)

Works great for GPL, Falcon 4, Combat Simulator, and West Front.  With my
low end machine (Pentium MMX 225MHz, 64 MB RAM, PDPI/L4 gameport) I am able
to get frame rates consistently in the mid-20s and higher while running
fields of 14 cars in GPL at 1024x768 resolution.

I don't agree on you Unreal Tournament statement. IFAIK UT is highly
optimized for Glide (3Dfx), and that's also my experience in real life. You
could check out the discussions in alt.games.unreal.tournament

Yes Richard V3 probably your best bet, tho i'd recommend the 3000

UT doesn't like any nvidia boards in my experience, texture loading
problems.
I run GPL, n3,nl, EAW,F4, UT demo, Q3, RC, and NFSPU myself with no

the V3 3000 can be had for jus a little more than the 2000, and if u
like u can get it with TV out for 179$ canadian (oem)  oh yeah thats
like 120-130 US$

The Voodoo3 2000 is about $80 US and the 3000 is about $100 US. Most of the
new 2000s and 3000s  can be heavily overclocked. For the extra $20, I think
the 3000 is a better deal.

my V2 2000 is overclocked at 189 mhz and runs perfectly, so it' s better
than V3 3500 (185 mhz), and much less expensive... Just check for the
type of ram chips on the card ,and avoid siemens which is bad for oc.
Hyundai and Vanguard (triangular logo) are ok!

If you need the TV-out.
AFAIK, overclocking the 2000 doesn't bring better performance up to a Celeron
450. Still CPU-limited.
