Sounds good rrevved! Thanks for getting back to the group. I just may have
to go get one myself. I'm anxiously awaiting your flight sim results. Tell
me, are you overclocking the card at all to get this kind of
performance? --Tim

  rrevved,

I along with many others are KEENLY interested in how F4 does along
with those other sims. Please let us know how it goes!! By the way, is
that AGP or PCI that you got...I'm seriously contemplating the Voodoo3
3000 AGP. Oh,and if you dont mind...could you say how you
installed...I.E. did you cleanse your system of previous drivers etc.
and exactly how did you do that. I know it's asking alot but I value
your opinion and expertise!

F4 runs great (you need to uninstall, then reinstall).

I can't get high res GLIDE to work, but D3D + GLIDE look the same (quality +
speed wise).

I run at 1280x960 now... very very nice at this res. (very good frame rate,
very nice image quality).

:-)

*snip*

Can't speak to F4 performance, but it is very important
with the V3 that you pop the CD in BEFORE swapping cards.
You run the CD as per instructions, it can identify your
old card and purge the drivers while it's still in. If you
swap cards first, things become more difficult. Read the
instructions first on this one and it'll all work great.
I don't think this is a big issue for non-3Dfx owners, but
if you are upgrading a Voodoo2 rig, then you should do it
the right way to get Glide done right.

Could not agree more.....no more stuttering with huge formations of planes
in EAW at 800x600, even with smoke pouring out everywhere...on my Pentuim
400 with 64 MB and Voodoo 3 3000!!  Beautiful!!

by Bria » Wed, 05 May 1999 04:00:00

I would love to run GPL at 1024x768, but only if the startline framerate is
acceptable for online racing (> 30fps).  Can anyone with a Voodoo3 3000 tell
me what the startline framerate is for:

- 1024x768
- 19 AI cars
- starting at back of grid
- in***pit-view (of course)
- all detail on
- detail bias set about 25% (from left)
- using standard grid
- at Spa

I know it's asking a lot, but it would be much appreciated.  Just want to
make sure it's worth switching from a TNT/12MB V2 combination (I don't have
a free PCI slot for a 2nd V2 in SLI).

FYI, I have a PII 450 with 128MB - an overclocked Celeron 300 should give
similar performance.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

rrevved,
Any reason why you didn't go with the  V3-3000?
Thanks,

Butting in here,

I got the V3-2000 instead of V3-3000 for several reason.

1)My 17" monitor only does 1024x768 anyway, V3-2000 fast enough.
2)Didn't need TV-out, nice but not needed
3)I am cheap

Oh wait, #3 should be #1

Voodoo3 - 2000 - Rocks hard in sims.......

I got both F4 and A V3 3000 last week. I wasn't actually all that
e***d about the V3 as I was changing over from a V2 SLI/G200 setup.
What really surprised me is how much I like the V3 3000. It is a bit
faster than SLI and looks a bit better, the 2D is fantastic, every bit
as good as my G200. Falcon 4, which I am still playing in "mentally
challenged mode" is smooth as glass in Glide mode at 1024x768 and at
1280x960 D3D I did notice a slowdown when flying through clouds of smoke
from an oil tank fire I had created. But overall 1024x768 seems to be
the "sweet spot" for F4 with the V3 3000. F4 is driving me nuts because
I cannot seem to stop once I load it up. Overall Falcon 4 + V3=
fantastic. This is probably old news but if you want to enable higher
resolutions in glide make this the line in your shortcut or put it in
the "run" box at the start menu. C:\MicroProse\Falcon4\Falcon4.exe
-HiRes Of course put in the proper path if it is different.

He probably doesnt have an AGP slot.  The V3/3000 is AGP only , I think.

Hello, rrevved.
I got Voodoo3 3000 AGP today too, and I saw real marvel!!!!!!

 I upgraded from Monster3D2 Voodoo2 8MB. With old Voodoo2,
There are some jerks with 19 AI cars at even Sliverstone (800x600 res).
No mention needed about Monaco...=(

But, with Voodoo3 and Unofficial Banshee/Voodoo3 patch, The jerks
are gone at same condition WITH 1024x768 res!!!!

Numerically, It might be seen a little bit difference between 800x600 and
1024x768, but there is THE difference!  I can drive relying on eyes other
than
memories!  I'm feeling like I got real world! =)

Thanks 3dfx and Mr George M. Smiley!

Now, I'm becoming optimistic about NASCAR Racing 2000 with 40 AI cars.

There are numbers on my site that relate how it does specifically in
Falcon 4....in comparison to V2 SLI, TNT and different versions of V3.

Why CPU are you running? 1280x960 D3D works great for me with V3 3000 +
P2-450 + 256 MB's of RAM.

Same here. I expected it to be better, but was shock at just how much
