Would you buy this card, if Best Buy offered it for $79, but the box was
already opened?

I got mine at Best Buy for $69 (including the $30 rebate that I just
received).  I then installed the Voodoo3 Overclocker by Gary Peterson
http://www.3dfiles.com/utility/voodoo3overclocker.shtml and bought the
Tennmax Cooling Fan http://www.tennmax.com/voodoo3/stealth_v3.htm

I now have rock solid performance with My Voodoo3 2000 at 170Mhz (default
is 143Mhz) which puts it above the default clock speed of the Voodoo3
3000 (166Mhz).

See if you can get the rebate from Best Buy.  A freind of mine just
bought one two weeks ago and they were still offering it.  If you could
get $30 off of $79 that would be a steal.

I bought two of these at BB for $99 to use in "decent" machines on my LAN.
Work great.  Just make sure BB will let you return them if they have a
problem.

Absolutely not.  Although possibly not true, it would indicate to me
they just put a return back on the shelf for resale.  Around here, Best
Buy does that all the time.  A friend of mine got a scanner once that
the box had been taped shut.  Turned out it was returned because it
didn't work.  A few days later, he noticed the same box on the rack once
again!  Sure, you can always return it if it *is* defective.  Just make
sure to ask yourself if it's worth it to you in order to save about $20.

//The box said "Windows 0x5f or better", so I installed LINUX!

No.  I might if it was new in the box, and I wanted to limit the budget to <
$80.

Thomas,

Personally, I don't buy anything that has been opened.  You can't be
sure if it was returned or just opened up in the store.
