Check the "integrity" of the files after downloading. I use PKWARE
Unzip/zip. It's shareware and the URL can be found on my links page. This
will eliminate 'downloading' as the problem.
I got the demo on the third download try, checked the files for
corruption, and simply unzipped them to a new NASCAR2 directory. It
installed itself. I added my NASCAR1 SOUND.CFG and CONTROLS.CFG files,
and it worked just like NASCAR1. I have a T2, and everything worked
EXACTLY the same.
I have a Dell P75 (Intel Pentium -1 yr old), 16 megs RAM, DOS 6.20,
Windows for Wrkgrps 3.11, and a Number Nine FX Motion 2Megs VRAM vid card
set at 32768 colors, 800 X 600 resolution, Non Virtual resolutions.
I've even been able to run/start the demo (haven't tried to 'race' yet,
though) in a DOS session from Windows 3.11. I can run NCR1 completely
from Windows.
I haven't tried UniVibe yet.
Hope this info helps...

Funny that nobody's complained about the missing Ford logos yet. <g>

That was probably the first thing I noticed about the game, and it did***me
off a little since i'm a Ford fan. I figured it was a copyright/licensing
thing.
On a related note, I laughed real hard when I saw Rusty Wallace had suddenly
become his own sponsor, complete with "Rusty" script on the side of his car.
Even thinking about it now makes me chuckle. :)
