NASCAR Problem! HELP Please!

by Jeffrey James Nor » Thu, 16 Mar 1995 13:46:26

Hi there. I'm not sure whether this is the right group to post this
question to or not, but I'll give it a shot... When I play NASCAR, it
sometimes kicks me out in the middle of a game or replay, to a screen
filled with numbers and register contents, and I'm pretty sure it's
related to the DOS 4GW thingy since it says something about a DOS 4GW
error. Anyway, is there any way to fix this? Is it my computer or the
game? Do I need a patch or something?
I have a 486 DX2-66 with 12 Megs of RAM, and SB16ASP, and a 1 Meg SVGA
video card.
I should mention that I get the error more often when I run the game with
sounds.

Anyway, I hope this is the right place to post this, and I hope to hear
from someone who can offer some ideas.

Thanks,
Jeff Norek

trident/vlb/svga, 8mb ram,
I can duplicate this on my Pentium machine OR not have it happen.  When
I set the refresh in my bios to the "faster" numbers I can crash the
system.  If I back them off to the "optimals" as set originally by the
MB manufacturer I don't have a problem.  Have you been playing around
with some of the bios settings?

In my BIOS setup program, I have the option to choose an optimal or fast
configuration, or reset to the defaults, is this the same thing? If not,
exactly which numbers did you play around with?

Thanks,

Yes, that is the MAIN one.  Fist, COPY DOWN ALL of your settings or use an
utility that will copy them for you.  Then, select optimal settings,
reboot, and give it a try.

In addition, my AMI bios has some "advanced" settings that allow the
memory timings to be selected such as 5-4-4-3 and 4-3-3-2.....don't ask me
what all they mean....  If I select a faster (lower numbers) than is
selected in the optimal setup, I can duplicate your problem on occassion.
Therefore, I stick with what works.

I haven't played around with them, but the shop that built the system
set it up pretty fast (zero wait state in the bios etc.) I am going to
change a few things in my bios setup and retry it.. thanks!
