Did you delete Richedit20.dll or whatever it's called btw? It's only
needed for win9x.

I get that occasionally in Win2k, I have no idea why but the length of
time it takes to connect to chat depends on your firewall. If I have mine
'stealthed' it takes a good 20-30 seconds to come up and sometimes can
time out with the same message you get. If I'm not 'stealthed' the
chatrooms come up virtually instantly.

I use a NAT router with a firewall too, so if your problem is similar to
mine but just a little worse, it may just be that you have it locked down
more tightly than vroc would like.
I'm no expert on firewalls though, and vroc is the only chat app I use.
Try opening up port 6667 on yout firewall, or redirecting 6667 to your
PC's IP.
You can change the default IRC port in vroc options if you want too.

If you enable port forwarding for ports 113-114 TCP, the chat will come up
correctly.

AFAIK it's UDP, but I have mine closed incoming, open outgoing with
stateful inspection. You don't need to allow it (chat) to act as a server.
