wheel/pedal combo inquiry

Hi all:

I'd like some opinions on wheel/pedal combos. I've got a Thrustmaster T2
but have had quite a few breakdowns with it. I'm just wondering if
others have experienced technical problems with their T2's and if there
are any recommendations for other units. I use mine primarily for ICR2.

Thanks,
Tom Marshall

There are several decent wheel/pedal combos out there. I just bought a TSW
and I'm quite pleased with it. A review of the unit will be going up on the
Late Night website shortly. There is also the ECC and the GP-500, both
around $500 or so. You'll find links to all 3 website on the Late Night
website.

TSW is the way to go. Not real expensive
(not cheap though), but worth every penny!

I used a T1 for about a year and a half and was constantly replacing the
gas pedal spring.  I finally got fed up with that and ordered a Thomas
Super Wheel a couple of months ago.  It's great!  It is almost as much
better than my T1 as the T1 was over a joystick.  Take a look at:

I just bought a T2 myself (yesterday, in fact).  While I obviously haven't
had a long time to use it, I can tell you how the installation went.

I went fine, no problems at all, other than my own disregard for taking the
time to read the setup instructions.

I run ICR2 in Win95 (I have the DOS version with the Win95 patch installed),
on a Dell Dimsension P100.  It plugs right into my sound card, which is a
SoundBlaster AWE32.  I calibrated it and was up and running in about 20min.

Hope this helps any prospective buyes out there, as I was weary from some of
the posts about problems with it.

This is probably a bit lazy of me, but the following is something I
sent out AGES ago in response to a similar query:

I own the ECCI CDS, which is absolutely amazing to drive with. Very
smooth, all the way though its travel, without the slightest notching
at the centre position of the wheel. It's all made out of steel, and
weighs 16lbs and 12lbs for the wheel and pedals respectively. The
wheel is a 3 spoked affair, covered in suede leather. 4 thumb shifters
sit above the 2 horizontal spokes in 2 groups of 2 buttons. I use
these for shifting and reversing. Sited next to where your thumbs
naturally rest they enable extremely fast shifting. I don't know how
long it takes me to get from 6th to 1st but it's as fast as I can
punch these buttons ie VERY quickly!! The pedals are springed with
different strength springs, so the brake is much stiffer than the gas
pedal. They sit in a large metal wedge, much like a footrest. The
thing's built to last, looks the business in front of the PC and is
immobile during racing. Highly recommended.

But there's also the TSW (the last URL I have is:
http://www.webcom.com/~pinniped/tsw.html) which is nice but a bit
rough around the edges. There's also the very customisable GP500 which
has shifters behind the wheel.

You might want to check out a back issue of SRN
(http://sneezy.dcn.ed.ac.uk/simnews/index.htm) which contains reviews
and a group test of the CDS, TSW and GP500. I should know. I was
there!!!

Just ask if you've any other queries on the CDS.

Stuart

Have you gotten the replacemant parts for free? I did.
Granted it does break every so often but if you are an avid racer and
wrench your wheel and feather the pedals 1000 times during every race
what do you expect for $99?

I am very happy with my T2 and the after purchase service that they
provide,
