Papyrus Vs Ubi and the rest of the world

Following the thread about the patch for F1RC I would like to point out the
following :

Just because Papyrus made GPL doesn't mean EVERY game they do is as good as
GPL
Just because UBI made F1RS or MGPR2 doesn't mean EVERY game they do is just
arcade.

In this direction I would like to point out that although F1RC has been
released MUCH later than NASCAR4 the patch for F1RC "SHOULD" be there soon,
for the moment we have no indication about the NASCAR4 patch, i think we can
agree that both NASCAR4 and F1RC need a patch for various reason (AI among
others) but for just this time you will have to admit that UBI soft has
reacted quickly, quicker than Hasbro for GP3 and the split axis patch,
quicker than Papyrus/Sierra for the NASCAR4 patch.

So give the guys a break and let's see what happens next, without being too
prejudiced by the games they released BEFORE.

Basing a company on how quick a patch comes out is not correct either.

You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes.. you have no idea how
much time the company is spending trying to get the patch done.

A company can come out with a patch 2 months faster than another company,
but if the patch does not fix much or just plain sucks.. then what?  NH is a
perfect example of this.. what really did the first patch fix??

Well of course you all know that the N4 patch is slow because Papy is
working hard completing their CART sim.

(hee hee hee...)

Heh..

As much as I would like to see a CART Sim by Papy, I sure hope that they
project they are working on now is a CTS/BGN addon for N4

You know what's funny, F1RS was considered by the overwhelming majority of
sef-declared experts here at r.a.s. to be the greatest and most realistic
sim yet when it was released. Somehow, it then became an arcade game.

Don't know what sort of arcades you play in, but I sure would like to try
them!

Based on past experience I'm sure you'll be pleased.  We'll see a couple
more variations of N4 with add-ons...BGN... maybe the 2001 season tracks...
another anniversary edition or something... then N5.  Really, isn't it about
time they put out something other than yet another Nascar title? I'm not
knocking N4 (got it, drive it, love it) but I'd really like to see something
else from them next.

It is my pure speculation, but I would say it's obvious that the patch took
some different shapes.  They were probably working on preparing the patch
before even the release of N4.  After the unsuspected high sales and top of
the chart list, they probably morphed the patch with the expansion pack.  I
doubt there won't be one.

Let's remember that for N2 the Expansion pack iirc brought new fixes to the
game, more then the original patch.

Show me some proof

Same could be said of F1CK2000, but on the opposite.

I don't have any. That's what I remember. I'm not doing a search of posts
from three years ago to back this up. No time for that type of project. I do
remember quite clearly that this newsgroup was dominated by F1RS, and people
like Alison Hine had written (on her web site) that it was fantastic and the
best yet.

BTW, I wasn't a big fan of F1RS when it was released. I was slow and
reluctant to come around to it.

Like I said, there was an initial shock.  All there was back then was arcade
F1 titles on the Playstation and of course GP2.   F1RS was a visual shock.
But soon after the release of the demo, it got canned by a good majority.
That didn't stop after the final release.  It was the best yet, but when the
dust came down everybody realised the major flaws in F1RS.

Some people do nothing wrong.
The problem is, they do nothing.
And THAT is wrong.
