New 3dfx drivers = smaller display

by Steve Smit » Sun, 25 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I downloaded and installed version 1.04.00 WHQL drivers dated 11 April, 2000
for my Voodoo 3, from the 3dfxgamers.com site.  Most NG posts and game FAQs
say the latest drivers are essential for optimum play and framerates.

On restarting the computer, the display on the monitor had shrunk to 80-90%
of original size.  Changing the refresh rate from Optimal to 85 Hz returned
it to normal size for normal Windows stuff (IE, Word, etc), but  games are
only displayed at the smaller size now: Grand Prix Legends, Rally
Championship 2000, Half-Life, System Shock 2; everything.

I've altered all the available refresh rates and colour depths, nothing I've
tried will get my games back to full screen.  Hardly seems worthwhile having
a 17 inch monitor anymore.  I'd be grateful for any suggestions that will
fix this, I wish I'd never made the "upgrade".

The system is a Dell Dimension XPSR400 (PII 400 MHz) with 128 MB of RAM, a
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP, and Dell D1025TM 17 inch monitor, which is a re-badged
Sony.

Thanks

You should look for a Prog called HZtool. It will allow you to specify
all the refresh rates for every resolution available to you.Adapter
default is usually 60hz refresh rate, which is *** the eyes.

Sounds like you installed the BETA 1.04.07 drivers that are dated
April 19th
The NON-BETA 1.04.00 drivers are dated January 27th
