GPL Joystick Help

I'd welcome advice or help;

setup

Dell PII 300
Matrox Millenium AGP
2 CL V2 SLI
Monster M80
TSW running sep throttle/brake axis plugged into Monster

At random but not infrequent times during driving, the joystick seems to go
bonkers, the arms of the driver pull to one side, very rapidly, then back to
center. Of course, at Spa, this is fatal.
I've WD40'd lightly, the pot for the wheel and it seems to work OK, most of the
time - is this tied to a disk access during the game?
I have a large install, WIndows swap on another drive at 250/250. Had the same
with 400/400 and 150/150.
Any ideas or thoughts are welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Russ

Get a Microsoft Sidewinder FF Wheel, it'll solve all your problems.

Unless you want to run NASCAR 2, GP2, ICR2, or anything else that isn't
Win95 native and uses DirectInput- as far as I know, everything MS makes
controller-wise requires DirectX to work. Am I wrong on this? I know the
Sidewinder Gamepad I bought for my daughter to use in Screamer 2 was not
recognized by the program running in a DOS box. If that's the case with the
wheel, I'd steer clear....if not, I won't pass judgement without trying one.
