Accuracy of F1 2K Physics

As a F1 newbie (GPL was my first encounter with any kind of F1 racing) I
have been awed by driving F12k. These cars are amazing pieces of machinery.
I'm curious though as to how accurate the game represents the true-life
handling of an F1 car. Obviously, I'm asking for opinions here since I don't
thnk too many of us have any "real-world" experience in F1 cars (at least if
you do, why would you be reading this...<g>).

I spent a few hours Sunday driving around Melbourne and really enjoyed the
"feel" of the cars. The braking performance and the acceleration are simply
amazing. Keep in mind that I'm comparing 1967 cars to 2000 cars, but the
grip and cornering ability really makes for a completely different
experince.

Why does my car seem to top out at around 165mph? I'm using the default
"grip" setup.

How does F1 2k compare to GP2 or MGPRS2?

Thanks,

says...

More than likely, your wings are creating too much drag, or you're not
geared properly.  Somewhere in the manual it explains how to set your
gears for maximum straight-line speed.

Take a cruise over to www.bhmotorsports.com and download some setups.
See what they do differently, and use that information to develop a
setup that you're comfortable with.

Many people have speculated that the physics in F1 2000 are very good
indeed. Certainly the best of the modern F1 sims and not far from GPL.
If not equal to GPL...

Yep. Technology :-)

Too much wing/not enough hi gear.

It doesn't. It blows both of them away.

You're KIDDING...?  It's probably related to the strength(or lack therof) of my
system, but I haven't 'felt' much except the bobbing screen...
How can some of you notice track inaccuracies at a place like Brazil shen the
screen is bouncing like a hula dancer?  Geez, is the track THAT bumpy???  That
place gives me a headache after about 10 laps...

brazil is pretty bumpy. Especially in the first turn.

Well then maybe I need to futz around with the graphics settings.  This has a
'slide-show rollercoaster' feel to it...
I wish I could see it on a faster machine.  I have an AMD K6/3-400

Tried setting the # of visible cars down?  Try around 7-8 & see how much
improvement you get in framerate, and tweak from there.  Texture quality
& distances is another area you can make good improvements in FR.

than that speed machine, I feel your pain.

Ok, I'll try that.  I'm currently running a championship with all the AI
cars...

Interlagos is extremely bumpy in real life.  In fact, of the six cars that
finished in the points at the beginning of the year, five of them had their planks
worn down below the allowed level (all but Fisichella in the Benetton).  The
stewards chose to waive that rule at the post race inspection rather than
disqualify all those cars.  I think F12K does a pretty good job representing the
bumps on this track.

But you haven't seen it on a K6/3-400 have you?  Geez, if this is realistic, I
want the chiropractic concession for the drivers after the race... :)
