F1 2001 - Multiplayer?

by John » Wed, 16 Jan 2002 23:10:28

Hi;

I understand that F1 2001 has only a few multiplayer options.  Is it
possible to connect IP to IP and still have a full field of computer
players?  Looking for a good F1 game to have a season with a few friends and
hoping this might be it.
Thanks

You can do it on a LAN, but I haven't tried it IP to IP.  I'll get
back to you on that.  :)

Oh...Maybe it is another game I am thinking of...dang...I am getting
them all so mixed up....  :(  Did F1 2000 or Championship season have
it?  I am almost sure I played it in some F1 game recently with AI.

Relay enables online play (IP-to-IP) with a client/etc.

goto: http://f12001.relaygames.com and grab the Relay Software.

Then you can all meet in there... create a session, and race.

Unfortunately, there is no AI enabled in F12001 Multiplayer (game
limitation).

Cheers,
Schumi

Schumi,

I never did get it working properly :(.  I have never managed to get
round a single lap without disconnecting even with no firewall :(.  It
must be something to do with my setup as there seems to be hundreds of
other people who can do it fine.

All the best,
Ash

I never got it working either. Partway around a lap -- even after a
chat session with the host so I know it wasn't a host 'boot'ing me off
-- I would get the message "You have been removed from this race" (or
words to that effect).

Tried:
Firewall enabled and disabled.
Router enabled and direct connect to my modem.
Antivirus program enabled and disabled.
(no problems with VROC)

And not that many races anytime I've been on the Relay site, and only
three or four racers per race. Basically a recipe for leaving F1 2001
and Relay alone (IMHO). The only reason I haven't removed it from my
computer is lack of energy.

Posted a message in the Relay forums asking about this; the last time I
checked -- more than a week after posting the question -- there were no
answers or suggestions. Forums seem as moribund as the racing. Too bad!
