I have a N3 install with patch 1.2.0.4 that kicks me to the desktop
when I try to enter Multiplayer or View reply from the main menu
screen.  

I have added Pocono from my N2 install to N3.  I am a newbie to online
racing and finally want to try it after years of racing AI.

I am using a V3 2000 PCI card (running at 143 MHz), W98 SE, Athlon 700
at 700 (if it matters), and I have all unnecessary stuff off my system
tray.  I have read through the readme.txt files from the patch and the
cd-rom with no insight as why this is happening.  

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks,

Sounds like you may have installed a add-on which modified the
layout.dat (decal sheet or something similar).  These will delete some
of the files needed by the patch, so you will need to reinstall the
1.2.0.4 patch after using any of these 3rd party add-ons.
