NASCAR Heat: A question...

by Bruce Kennewel » Mon, 12 Jul 2004 10:42:06

Is it possible to slow down the extraordinary acceleration of the AI cars at
the start/restart of a race?
They seem to have the equivalent of a Saturn-V up their exhaust pipes and
even tho' I qualify on pole position, I am passed by half the field by the
start of the backstretch (Indy)!!

If anyone can offer some info (tweaking a file??) I'd be grateful.

TIA,
Bruce.

That was addressed somewhat with the patching process IIRC.  , pre
patch setups were no match for the AI when starting.  A whole new gearbox
was called for.
The uspits used to have a handy little utility that Jan wrote that
patched Heat up to whatever the last patch was.   Definately a must have.
I spent over a year racing Heat online(tptcc league), so the AI starts
were  not an issue.  I can't remember if the starts were fixed or made
worse by the patches.  sorry

Thanks, Dave.
I've added all the patches, as required for the "SoH50" mod (and others).
I was wondering if this line in the 'Options.cfg' file has anything to do
with it..........

ai_start_tweak 3

Anyone know?

Cheers!
Bruce.

Just do as Dave said; the patches fix it.  You don't need to tweak
anything.

Ummm....perhaps you'd like to read my response again?
I *HAVE* patched it. Totally. All patches, official and otherwise.
So whilst I may not *need* to tweak anything, I am wondering if anything
*can* be tweaked.

Bruce.

I also have a HEAT question.
After installing No-CD patch the game will not start. Any guess?

Geez Tiny...why didn't you ask this two freaking years ago when I might
have remembered it? :)
You and Bruce ignored the *** when it came out and NOW you pester
me..hehehe lol!

Patching Heat was always confusing to some, especially the modding process.
But for others it was painless.  Did you use the Pits all in one
patch..that should include a nocd patch.  Most likely you patched to game
to level 1.x and then used a nocd that was intended for an earlier version.
Like v1.x-1.   Just a guess tho...give the all in one patch a try...

HEAT was never sold in Australia; the copy I have was sent to me.
I ran it for a while but then went on to NASCAR 2003 and have only recently
re-installed it purely to use the SoH50 mod.

I seem to remember something about having to have Heat in the default
directory when it installs. If you relocate it, the mods wouldn't
start. Or some such :)

It's coming back to me now. You have to right click on the No-CD and
click on properties. Make sure the folder that the link is looking for
matches exactly not "NHeat" versus "Nascar Heat".

Heat really insists on being installed on the system drive, typically C:
Something to try, is running the other .exe- after one patch (I forget
which) you get the choice of nascar heat.exe or nheat.exe

Otherwise the other advice is sound- best way to patch is the all-in-one
method.

cheers

Good thinking everyone,  I had forgotten most of that.
to sum up..
A.  Do NOT move Heat from it's default installation path. Don't ask why
just don't do it.  I don't care how you feel about that...let Heat install
to drive C:\  If this presents a m***problem for you, then abandon the
sim.  Getting around this feature is just too complicated.
B.  Look for the Nheat.exe(that would be the nocd exe) instead of Nascar
Heat.exe
c.  You should be able to check your version number on the options screen.
If you have patched correctly, it will have a much different number than
v1.0.   To run the mods and probably the nocd, you must have properly
patched the sim first.

Thanks guys for the memory jogs.

Umm.... perhaps you'd like to chill out.  Yep, lots can be tweaked.  Since
you get so pissed at someone trying to help, figure out yourself how to do
it.

Well, you'd have to be a major***head, wouldn't you? Did you attain the
qualification at university or does it just come naturally?

First off, I ask a simple question, and you come back with the "helpful"
answer, quote, "Just do as Dave said; the patches fix it.  You don't need to
tweak anything."

That was *really* of tremendous assistance to someone who specifically asked
if it can be tweaked.

Then, when I point out that I had already stated that I'd fully-patched the
***y game, you come back with this gem..."Yes, lots can be tweaked".

Why didn't you say that in answer to my first question, instead of being
such a smug twerp and tossing back your clever, know-it-all response?

You make cretins look like MENSA candidates.

Bruce.

lol, whew.  Step away from the pc, do you good.  I'd explain how you
completely missed the boat on my response, but it would obviously be to hard
for you to grasp, being as common sense is required.

Though maybe not, your using big words like cretin and MENSA and all, wow,
impressive <rolls eyes>
