Spirit Of Heat 1937 for NASCAR Heat available NOW!

by John Bod » Sun, 20 Jan 2002 14:22:27

For all you fans of historic racing, the Spirit Of Heat 1937 mod for
NASCAR Heat is available NOW at Big Ben's site:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

From the readme file:

========================

Spirit Of Heat 1937 -- Dedicated to the memory of Neil Bainbridge, who
first brought these cars to life on the PC.

Spirit Of Heat 1937 mod is a full conversion for NASCAR Heat by Hasbro
Interactive, featuring vintage Grand Prix cars 1930s.  We have not
attempted to simulate any particular era, but many of the cars present
in this mod were active on the Grand Prix circuit in or around the
1937 timeframe.

========================

ENJOY!

Awesome job John - looks and drives amazing.

One question (actually I notice the saem with your 50s truck mod)

I have the following confg:
AMD 1.4 - 512MB RAM
Geforce 3 - - Drivers 23.11
Win XP Pro
SB Audigy - Gamer

I run at max resolution 1280 etc however when the cars pass me (or the
trucks) the tires disappear in the distance.  In the truck mod the trucks
will appear to disintegrate.

So what I see in the Spirit mod is the body of the car flying off in the
distance - with no wheels.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Brad

I think the issue with the tires is a LOD (level of detail) problem --
to make the game more friendly for slower PCs, you drop details as the
cars move further away (and I think the tires are especially ***
the frame rate).

Big Ben may be able to address this in future patches or add-ons.

Downloaded all files and installed fine as directed. Click on
SpiritofHeat.bat and nothing happens. I have all the fixes for Nascar Heat
installed.

It's not the .bat file you click on, Chuck, it's the Spirit of Heat icon,
which links to the main NH exe, with modifications...

Chuck,

Make sure the SpiritOfHeat.bat file is located in the following
directory:

"..\NASCAR Heat\SpiritOfHeat\"

If it still doesn't work, go to my Spirit Of Heat site
(http://irlheat.bhmotorsports.com/spiritofheat/) and download the
"Fix" file, unzip the batch file, and put the new "spritofheat.bat"
file in the "..\NASCAR Heat\SpiritOfHeat\" directory.

Let me know if that doesn't help.

FWIW, I'm assuming that you have other Heat mods installed and
working, and that you've also got the 1.1, 1.3, and 1.5 (or 1.5a)
patches for Heat installed.  Plus the FULL installation of Heat (to
run off your hard drive, not off the CD).

LMK how it goes.

John,

I downloaded all of the files, but when I try installing, I get the
following error at the 13% of Total Process mark:

Decompression failed: Invalid Compressed data

and the file that it chokes on is paint.res.

I have applied all of the patches, and I have also successfully installed,
and run, IRL Heat (Great Mod, BTW....)

Any advice on what I need to do to suuccessfully install Spirit of Heat?

Bert

one VERY IMPORTANT POINT ABOUT ALL HEAT MODS!!!  You MUST install on your
boot C drive.  If you do not install on C, with the defaul pathing, you will
be in for constant headaches.  I know that sucks, I know we should have
complete control over our hard drive allocation, but trust me...install and
fully patch heat on your C drive.

Bert,

Did you download the files from Big Ben's site or from the second site
on the BHMS server (http://irlheat.bhmotorsports.com/spiritofheat/)?
Much as I hate to say it, you might try grabbing the files from the
OTHER site, just to see if there's a problem.  I downloaded the files
from Big Ben's site, and they all worked fine.

Do you have any download accelerators running or such?  Sometimes they
can corrupt compressed files during downloads.

I downloaded the files from Big Bens' site.  Twice, as a matter of fact.  I
don't run any download accelerators.   I do run ZipMagic, though.  However, I
tried the install with Zip Magic activated, then tried again with it
de-activated.  No difference.

It is.

Tried that. Still no joy.

I have 1.1, 1.3a, and 1.5 patches installed. I'm not sure about the full
installation. I tried uninstalling (just removes one or a few files) then
reinstalled. There is a \data directory under Nascar Heat\ with 221 megs. Is
that a full install? There is nothing in the Nacar Heat directory except
\data and \SpiritOfHeat. The SOH directory has 80.2 megs in it.

Thanks for your work and your effort to help.

BRH,

Please post your system specs and your operating system -- maybe that
will reveal something.  For example, I've tested the installer with
Windows 98, but not ME, 2000, or XP, so that could be the problem if
you're running one of those operating systems.
