Have a funny little anecdote I thought I'd share with you guys. But before I
tell the story, bear in mind that I've recently added a SB Live and a
Voodoo3 3000 to my system. So I'm now able to run 1024 x 768, all features,
quality, effects settings maxed, 50% detail bias, 16 sounds, 36 fps on a 19"
monitor with a full AI field. Suffice it to say it's pretty immersive. And
now for the anecdote that I offer in evidence...

The other night I was racing around chasing the AI at Zandy. After about 8
laps I was sitting about 5th with the usual collection of green cars up the
road and just out of sight: Hulme, Brabham, Hill, and Clark.

On the ninth lap, as I come out of Tarzanbocht, I see an infamous green car
parked in the grass on the right about halfway up the chute that leads to
the dog-leg left. Since I had been reeling 4th place in, I was anxious to
see exactly who it was that had retired. I was hoping that it was Clark...I
thought perhaps I could ultimately catch the others, but knew I had little
chance of overtaking dear Jimmy.

So as I approached, I was determined to get a good look to see who the
unfortunate soul was. Grab a good quick look, I told myself. In a flash I'm
on top of the crippled car and as I pass I turn and take that good look.

No wait! Did you catch that? I turned...I turned my head to the right, away
from the monitor, expecting to see a Lotus or Brabham sitting over there!
Couldn't quite make out a number on the pile of books sitting on my
desk! LOL!

I thought to myself...Wow! They've finally done...virtual reality. We can no
longer distinguish what's real from what's imagined! GPL immersion's
complete! Speaks volumes about the quality of this sim!

That live card is good isn't it. If your'e not runnning four speakers then you
still have more fun ahead of you! fwiw I tried the cambridge and was
dissapointed in the lack of midrange and the fact that at max rpm in the honda
the subwoofer was still working even though it was turned all the way down. So I
added another set of yamaha speakers with a subwoofer, then I attached the
subwoofer to the bottom of the seat in my***pit! Woo Hoo, force feedback for
the butt!

At the risk of rehashing old territory, let me ask you SB Live pros...

What environmental settings for GPL have you guys had success with using the
SB Live?

Do you use the gameport on the card? Have you found that it makes any
difference?

Why can't I play DVDs in my DVD drive anymore? Any ideas on how to enable an
appropriate player for DVDs with the SB Live?

John, so are you now using TWO sub-woofers? Does your house move on it's
foundation?

Have you discovered a way to load the individual applets in AudioHQ without
loading the entire AudioHQ window?

Thanks!

Other then having sound come from all four speakers, I fail to hear the
difference between 4 and 2.

So, With the SB live environments, what environments are you using?  I have
listed a "3D Racing game" and use that.  Is that what you use? and did you
position the sound coming from the speakers with the software?

Well, about the only thing I can comment on is  I do use the gameport on the
Live card, and find it very smooth - much smoother than what I got with a CH
Gamercard3, or my SB16 port.
I haven't found any environment settings I like for it yet, but plan on
working on customizing one to my liking at some point.

I just run normal multi-speaker, with about 15% reverb. I saw a big
difference between 2 speakers and 4, like I was missing a lot of the sounds
with just 2.

Does any1 know if GPL1.1 will have 3d audio support, that would be
excellent. I'm drooling already waiting for the forcefeedback. With 3d
sound to go with my eyescream 3d glasses and forcefeedback I think I
could definitely get totally immersed then.

Has any1 banged there head on something to the side of them yet from
leaning over to far trying to help the car around the corner? DOH I
have.
