ok - i noticed that everyone in here seems to be playing gpl so i went out and got it, but as its an old game it doesn't support
force feedback, or res above 640x480 with my nVidia card... there has to be a way around this, any pointers for a newbie, some sites
that can help maybe?

thanks..

It does support force feedback - try a Google search in this ng.

You appear to have a lot to learn about GPL but at least you've come to the
right place :).  GPL supports force feedback, in fact it has the best FF of
any sim.  It supports the latest GeForce cards with a D3D patch.  The
graphics have been more or less completely redone by a band of editors.  I
suggest you take a look at my beginner's guide to GPL at
http://www.legendscentral.com/gplintro.shtml for a lot of basic information
and links to transform GPL into an up to date sim.

Wrong about the force feedback.  It has the best implementation of
force feedback around!  You just have to (upgrade &) turn it on.

Force feedback in GPL isn't "hand" candy.  It gives you back important
feedback about what the car is currently doing.  FF is games such as
NFS SCGT etc is just for fun.

don't forget to apply the version 1.2 patch (it's probably on your CD in the
"patch" directory) which then I think enables force feedback. You need the
D3D patch from Papy http://www.papy.com/downloads/gpl_d3d.exe so you can run
nice high resolutions and then if your cpu and graphics card are up to it I
would heartily recommend the JF carset (new car graphics that look *much*
nicer than the default ones) from http://jfcarsets.cjb.net/

GPL isn't an easy game, it'll frustrate you and tease you for months before
you finally get into it and start getting the satisfaction of consistent
lapping, but persevere and I think you'll find it's very rewarding...

Go to www.papy.com and download the correct (for your country) 1.2 patch for
GPL and the GPL D3D patch.  Once you've installed both patches, look in your
GPL folder.  There will be a file in there called 'core.ini.sample'.  Edit
the name and remove the '.sample' bit so the file is called just 'core.ini'.

Next find this line in your core.ini and change the 0 to a 1.  That enables
FF.

allow_force_feedback = 1                 ; Use FF if device has it

Then since your card is from NVidia, add these lines to the end of your
core.ini-

[ Int Profile Values ]
value3 = Direct3D7:D3DDevice:0                  ; do not change
value4 = Direct3D7:TossHighestMip:0             ; do not change
value5 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResWidth:1       ; do not change
value6 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResHeight:1      ; do not change
value7 = Direct3D7:DirectMirrorRendering:1      ; do not change
value8 = Direct3D7:DisableZBuffer:0             ; do not change
value9 = Direct3D7:AlphaThreshold:240           ; do not change
value10 = Direct3D7:TransparentMipsDrawOrder:0  ; do not change
value11 = Direct3D7:TrilinearFiltering:1        ; do not change
value12 = Direct3D7:AnisotropicFiltering:0      ; do not change
value13 = Direct3D7:LODBias:-50                 ; do not change

[ Direct3D7 ]
D3DDevice = 0
TossHighestMip = 0
DoubleMirrorResWidth = 1
DoubleMirrorResHeight = 1
DirectMirrorRendering = 1
DisableZBuffer = 0
AlphaThreshold = 1
TransparentMipsDrawOrder = 1
TrilinearFiltering = 1
AnisotropicFiltering = 8
LODBias = -50

Then start GPL, change the renderer in the options to D3D and restart GPL.
Now up the resolution and enjoy.

You may also like the tweak these lines in your core.ini-

force_feedback_latency = 0.035000        ; force feedback latency (secs)
max_steering_torque = 300.000000         ; steering torque in N*in giving
max device force

These settings are good for a Guillemot/Thrustmaster Ferrari wheel USB.
Also, if you are using a wheel select split axis for the pedals and lastly
you might like the change the following line to look like this-

steer_ratio = 0                              ; Enable low speed ratio
override

and got it, but as its an old game it doesn't support
be a way around this, any pointers for a newbie, some sites

If you have trouble renaming the core.ini (as many people do) you can just
download mine from here and edit it.  Just stick it in your GPL directory.
It's set for a Nvidia GF2 and FF is turned on.

Actually (as mentioned in other posts in this thread) it supports
pretty much everything you can throw at it. Which is a good job,
because when you've ***ed up Eau Rouge for the seventh time running,
you won't have a shortage of things to throw :-)

I don't have a problem with Eau Rouge.  The Monaco chicane, on the other
hand...

What's this David? Are your replies so predictable that now you just hit the
