?ivind...

I try not to do mice and never load any resource-consuming,
slow-boot-inducing junk in the taskbar tray!

I'm curious about access to the individual SB Live applets so that I can
assign keyboard shortcuts to them. :)

leaning over to far trying to help the car around the corner? DOH I
have.<

Haven't done that, Vince, but I do find myself jamming my left foot up
against my system unit, which sits under my desk and to my left. It's a
carryover from my racing days when I would jam my left foot up against the
footwell wall in order to secure it. When I find myself in a really tight
spot in GPL, I instinctively start hunting for that elusive footwell wall.
Hehe.

Yep, Phil. Haven't done that with the instruments, but I have tried to look
around the virtual arms to see the gear lever.

And here's another good one that I bet everybody's attempted:

Ever instinctively craned your head to the left or right to get an expanded
field of view in a mirror?

I often wonder what my neighbors think is going on inside my house! LOL!

And I worry about the long term effects of this cranked GPL "music." It
can't be good for you, but, unfortunately, at least for those around us and
for the health of our ears, volume really does seem to add to GPL
performance. The audible cues are so much more evident!

May 31 is still the target. :)

Oh yeah? At least you don't start leaning into the turns like I find myself
doing! What nerds we are!

Reminds me of when I phsically jumped out of my chair in DOOM, turning a
nice quiet corner to find a big pink Demon jumping at me!

|Reminds me of the time I started to flip and grabbed the wheel real tight
|and ducked my head down. Damn did I feel stupid!!!!!

|
|> Have a funny little anecdote I thought I'd share with you guys. But
before I
|> tell the story, bear in mind that I've recently added a SB Live and a
|> Voodoo3 3000 to my system. So I'm now able to run 1024 x 768, all
features,
|> quality, effects settings maxed, 50% detail bias, 16 sounds, 36 fps on a
19"
|> monitor with a full AI field. Suffice it to say it's pretty immersive.
And
|> now for the anecdote that I offer in evidence...
|>
|> The other night I was racing around chasing the AI at Zandy. After about
8
|> laps I was sitting about 5th with the usual collection of green cars up
the
|> road and just out of sight: Hulme, Brabham, Hill, and Clark.
|>
|> On the ninth lap, as I come out of Tarzanbocht, I see an infamous green
car
|> parked in the grass on the right about halfway up the chute that leads to
|> the dog-leg left. Since I had been reeling 4th place in, I was anxious to
|> see exactly who it was that had retired. I was hoping that it was
Clark...I
|> thought perhaps I could ultimately catch the others, but knew I had
little
|> chance of overtaking dear Jimmy.
|>
|> So as I approached, I was determined to get a good look to see who the
|> unfortunate soul was. Grab a good quick look, I told myself. In a flash
I'm
|> on top of the crippled car and as I pass I turn and take that good look.
|>
|> No wait! Did you catch that? I turned...I turned my head to the right,
away
|> from the monitor, expecting to see a Lotus or Brabham sitting over there!
|> Couldn't quite make out a number on the pile of books sitting on my
|> desk! LOL!
|>
|> I thought to myself...Wow! They've finally done...virtual reality. We can
no
|> longer distinguish what's real from what's imagined! GPL immersion's
|> complete! Speaks volumes about the quality of this sim!

One of the great things about the Logitech pedal base is a good sized "dead
pedal" next to the brake, just right for bracing yourself against those heavy
g-forces in GPL<g>.

hahaha! :o)))

I have told people about this before....

I was racing in a 20car race at spa one night (online) I was really in the
racing zone (doing 3:19's) and starting to close onto 5th position (i
started at the back) i came through the kink and saw 3 or 4 cars piled up
right on the racing line, within a milisecond I had hit them... and you know
what? this actually physically shocked me, I felt shock! I sat there, with
my car upside down near 'the house' and couldn't do anything, I had frozen!
I was breathing really weird and i could feel my heart beating! I must of
sat there for 5 minutes just loosely clutching the wheel and staring into
the computer screen!

I had a VERY embarraseing Immersion Episode.

I was yelling at the top 3 AI cars circulating around Watkins Glen when two
of my housemates came down from upstairs to see if I was alright...

Me?

A quick post count back to, say, April 1 reveals:

Jack Rambo 168
Tim Wheatley 121

With the NTT series and the announcement of GPaL in that time frame, I'd say
you're holding your own! Keep up the good work, I'm predicting that once
GPaL gets out the door, you'll overtake me with no difficulty!
