Does it?  Maybe I'm just crap, but apart from the gears (some cars have 6,
others 7 forward gears) I haven't spotted the difference when I drive them
myself.

I quite like the fun of out-qualifying Schumacher in a Minardi, but it add's
an extra edge if I know that the car is hampered by the software in the game
too!!

btw, I unlocked the Medical Car by getting a gold lap in the "school" at
Hockenheim - where can I unlock the trainers and safety car?

Cheers!

So you're just as fast in a Minardi as in a Renault?  I know I'm certainly
not...

Yes, the cars are different.

In one of the menus you can have the cars as in real life or set them to all
be the same.

I find the difference between my times in the Ferrari and the Minardi
with similar wing settings and the gearing adjusted appropriately is
about 2 seconds on a typical track (i.e. 1:30-ish lap time).

Also, I should add that the Minardi has less horsepower/torque.  If
you run the same setup in the Ferrari and then go to another car,
you'll find that the top speed in the rpm/kmph graph is lower.  Most
engines also cannot rev nearly as high as the Ferrari.  Finally, it
could be my imagination, but I find the Jordan's to be wide as hell,
or at least I have trouble turning in neatly.

I thought this only reset the AI cars to be spread across the field,
rather than the car I am driving.

If there is a performance hit, there should be something about this in
the manual, as some people (rightly or wrongly) will NEVER drive a
(Ferrari / Williams / McClaren) because of team rivalries etc.

Does anyone know what characteristics are different between the
different cars then?  And do the setups that I use have to be tailored
to each different race car?
