I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on a very frustrating
situation. I am consistently getting black flagged in NASCAR 3 after
coming back from a caution period. Here's a typical scenario:

The caution comes out. I race back to the finish line and fall into
place behind the car in front of me. I hear "Stay behind the #X car." I
fall into place behind the #X car and wait for the green. The green
comes back and I'm told I'm black flagged for passing under yellow.
WTF??!!!  This happens alot! What am I doing wrong? I've lost some races
I could've won because of this and don't recall this happening under N1,
N2, N99. Is it holding the penalty against me because I may have
inadvertently passed before I knew which car I was supposed to be
behind?

You shouldn't get black flagged as long as you get back behind #X before the
restart.... you can however get black flagged if you are ahead of a car that
is going into the pits:   caution comes out, pit road opens, you stay on the
track but Snug Sipple decides to pit... as he slows and enters pit road you
get ahead of him and get told to stay behind.... meantime ol' Snug makes it
past the pit wall before you can get slowed, and you get the black for
passing under yellow...

don't know if that's what's happening to you, but I got quite a few before I
figured out where it was giving me the penalty at.....

That could very well be what's happening, and if so, that's absurd. How are you
supposed to stay behind a car that's in the pits? The other thing I've noticed
that might be happening is due to the double file restarts. With cars entering
and leaving the pits, and trying to get in the correct lane with the restart, it
sometimes is complete chaos. All I want is to avoid getting black flagged! I go
wherever my spotter tells me to! It also looks like the game makes computer cars
that are one or more laps down wait a lap before pitting. Is this correct? If
so, it should make the player do so also. I've tried to enforce it on myself but
there are times when I wait the lap before pitting with the lead lap cars, only
to hear that there's only one lap left until green before I even get a chance to
pit! That's crazy. There should be at least 3 laps of caution whenever the
yellow comes out to allow all cars time to pit, no?

This is the problem. Its a problem in NASCAR Legends as well.

This is a hold over from N2, NR1999 and is totally porked.
My solution is to not play with yellows.

Obviously you shouldn't. DUH. But the game black flags you anyway.
i.e. feature.

Sure. Are you actually implying that this is going to be fixed?
It was in N2 and NR1999 and now has been leeched into N3.
I have no faith that the yellow/black flag/double file restart will
be fixed.

If you have info to the contrary I am sure more people that myself
would be interested.

No Greg I was just kidding (I'm not testing anything...) and you're right
small chances to fix something now if they didn't for pass 6 years...
But a patch is bound to be made...

That's a shame because this game is seriously ***ed up as regards black
flags. I am so pissed and I know now that's it's not my driving. I was just
racing at Martinsville, where the pit speed is 35. I had to pit so I slowed
to 25 mph on the back straight, paused the game, turned on autobraking, and
went to my pit stall, STAYING UNDER 35 MPH UNTIL I STOPPED. I did my pit
thing and took off. The autobrake kept me at 35 mph until my spotter told me
I was clear of pit road, at which point the car began accelerating. Now how
did I feel confident about what was going to happen next? You got it. I was
black flagged for speeding on pit road. What????!!!!!! Where the hell did I
speed. I said to myself, "Self, this is bullshit, but we can still clobber
these other bums, so we'll honor the penalty." I came to a complete stop on
the back straight, i.e. 0 MPFH, and crept into my pit stall while the field
continued to race around me. I served my penalty and repeated the above,
again using the autobrake to keep me within pit speed limit. And I was given
another black flag for speeding on pit road!!!!!  How can this game's code
be so flawed after years of releases? And it's not limited to any specific
track. How does everybody else deal with this ***short of throwing their
wheel through the monitor?

Hehe, gonna tell you what the problem is: make sure you don't pass the
PACECAR driving through pitroad until crossing the line!

When I play N3, the Auto-Brake option does not keep me under the limit on
pit road.  It did in N2, but not N3.

Do you mean the stationary pace car? I have a couple of reasons why I
think people get black flagged on pit stops when it doesn't appear that
they should:

1) When you punch the accelerator to leave your pit stall, your RPMs/MPH
may surge above the pit speed. This may be seen as a speeding violation.

2) Your spotter is wrong when he tells you you're clear of pit road. I've
tried maintaining pit speed until I'm actually back out on the track and
I've avoided black flags. Unfortunately, this really gets you off the
pace, especially if you've been forced to make a green flag stop.
