Ok, haven't seen it mentioned here yet but it sure deserves a mention:

"Monza 10k", John Basara's masterpiece rendition of accurate 1967 Monza
including the banking, is finally out on the streets for GPL.

This being the definitive "Grand Prix" movie replica track, anyone who
still has GPL should immediately grab it at:

Plenty of cool screenshots to soak in the 1960's atmosphere, too!

Aw shucks, I just traded GPL (and a few other old games) for Doom 3.

I'm in a league with JB.  He mentioned it on the list, but I haven't had a
chance to download it yet.  Should be pretty cool...

Wow.. finally!! I was in Italy a couple of weeks ago and went to Monza
to see the old banking. It was quite amazing to be there.. I had to
climb a bit through bushes to get on the banking, and when I got there
it was totally deserted and in a very bad state :-/
The thing is so damn steep that it took me quite some effort to climb
to the top of the banking. And when you realize that those fragile
cars raced there.. totally amazing.

The only sim that has been a permanent fixture on my PC's since the original
demo was released all those years ago.

Now, with both Tripoli and "Grand Prix" Monza, and the 1965 cars, it's as if
GPL is released all over again. :)

Bruce.

During the Race of Two Worlds ('55 and '56, I think), one of the Yanks,
Jimmy Bryan, was afraid to leave his stash in his hotel room, and had his
wad of cash sucked out of his overalls by the slipstream, so parked his
Roadster at the bottom of the banking, and scrambled up the slope to
retrieve his Fifties, one bill at a time...AS CARS ROCKETED PAST AT 165 MPH!
The Yuros couldn't stop laughing....

Uh.. along the same lines, a coupe of bikes were racing on the
circuit, and I was standing near Parabolica.
This corner is very special to me since I took that corner about
20.000 times to get a sub-27 lap in GPL..
I just had to kiss the road.. The circuit wasn't blocked, so when the
bikes passed the corner, and no bikes were coming from the straight, I
run up to para, kneeled and kissed the floor, and run back.
Totally irresponsible, I know :(

Also not really nice: I took a piece of concrete of the banking home
:-/

Thanks for that, now we'll always have a rather distracting mental image
of you kissing the road every time WE take Para  ;)

Maybe somebody could supply a tiny add-on for Monza w. Ruud bussing the
pave?

Hey, it wasn't MY lips having a craving for Italian asphalt, it was
Andre actually!

*I* only kiss the exhaust pipes of any Lotus 49 I see in the pits. Not
too healthy either, I know  ;)
