Bought the game On Thursday..Started a lap at Nurburgring last
night..Just finished it.. :)))

To those who dont yet have the game, Nurbrugring is 14 MILES! 174 or
so turns... And it kicks ass :)

But it does take a while to do a lap

It might be more accurate to say that, the first time out, Nurburgring
does YOU (as opposed to you doing a lap <G>).

Tell me about it...  got the game today & Nurburgring was the 1st track I
tried.  Mistake. "Say, can anyone tell me how to get to Monza from here???"
Heeheheee :)

I watched the video of Nurburgring that came with the game, have you noticed
how many of those turns are totally blind, hidden behind the crest of a hill?
Man, you gotta respect the guys that could race that course for real...

Chase view?  For replays only :)  Helps me judge how I'm progressing, & what
I'm doing wrong

Never use it in the race.  It's paying off too.  I'm learning to judge speeds,
distances, etc & I'm getting to where I can drift thru the turns*** it
right on the edge at several tracks.  God what a blast this game is :^)

I was about to ask the same. Take a pair of pliers now and remove that
F10 key before it's too late!

If it wasn't for my pride and the fact that the Indycar disappears in
the corkscrew, I might still be using arcade view, too. :)

Has anyone made it around the Nurburgring with a time less then my... 15
minutes or so - I keep crashing.

I know the first 20% of the circuit WAY too well...

I have done a couple of laps at 10 minutes+, but I still need to improve
1:30 to get  close to the fast guys.

It' so hard to remember all those curves.

> It' so hard to remember all those curves.

I'm just now holding consistent laps under 11:00 minutes, without
e***ment or heroics. It took just under an hour to run 5 laps there
earlier today, not using Shift-R at all finally. The problem now is
cutting the 2:30 I need to get competitive.

It's not easy without English names. I'm slowly getting the course
layout, but I still need names for the corners. German-to-English
translations for the following would be much appreciated:

** Hatzenback: the ess's after the 2nd and 3rd gear turns beyond the
front straights.
** Hocheichen: the left-right before the big dip down to the bridge and
then back up to where I used to smack the nose after jumping the crest.
** Flugplatz: the two fast right handers if you survive the jump.
** Schwedenkreuz: slower-than-it-looks left hander before the turn to
the bridge. I used to always drive over the white sign on the banking
here.
** Aremberg: right-hander before the bridge.
** Fuchsrohre: gentle chicanes leading to the viewing stands in the
forest.
** Adenauer Forst: 1st gear hairpin just past the viewing stands.
** Metzgesfeld:
** Kallenhard: right hander leading to the dark, fast downhill esses. My
favorite part of the course; can (must?) be driven without brakes all
the way down. I love the skiing feeling it gives when done right:
drifting on all four, edge to edge, back and forth, all the way down.
** Wehrseifen: braking marker for the blind, downhill left hand hairpin
on the brige. Used to always lose the front right on the bridge wall.
** Breidsheid: slippery bridge that used to always eat the newly
replaced Lotus, right before Ex-Mhle.
** Ex-Mhle: very steep uphill right hander.
** Bergwerk: right-hander at the top of the grade from Ex-Mhle.
** Kesselchen: very fast left-handers. Steep mountain walls on the
right.
** Klostertal: mostly blind, very light, very fast right hand sweeper.
Used to get tossed here quite a lot; too late to brake when you see
what's about to happen. Almost to the carousel.
** Karussell: 1st concrete banking. Aim for the pine-tree.
** Hohe Acht: esses.
** Wipperman:
** Eschbach:
** Brnchen:
** Eis Kurve:
** Pflantzgarten:
** Sprunghugel: jump.
** Schwalbenschwanz: deceptively slow left-hander leading to second
banking.
** Kleines Karussel: concrete banked left.
** Galgenkopf: leads onto the back straight.
** Dottinger Hohe:
** Anteniusbuche: chicane and bridge before pit straight, start-finish.

A fun course, and definitely a challenge to drive smoothly from start to
finish. Pronouncable names and labels will help tremendously.

Michael.

Direct translation, I think, is "Swedish Cross". Why is a bit more of
a mystery...!

This is "Fox hole". Apparently a fox ran into a hole or pipe at this
section while the workmen were building the track, hence the name.

Adenauer is the village closeby.

Carousel.

High Eight? Why, I don't know.

Ice curve. Maybe just literally!

This is named after a garden, although I can't remember what "Pfanz"
is/was. A castle, village or whatever.

This is "Swallowtail", named by the workmen after the shape of the
track.

Little carousel.

Antonius' bridge. Named after someone called Antonius that someone
explained about here recently but I've forgotten. Maybe we can ask all
the German guys on the forum to translate these (or call the 'Ring and
ask them?) and stick it on a web-page somewhere.

I've never found it necessary to know the names, although it helps
when talking to someone. Perhaps it's useful to tell the virtual pit
crew and virtual ambulance where to pick you up...? :-)

Cheers!
John

Flugplatz means "Airport".

Its a remain from the 30-year-war in early 17th century between Sweden
and Preussen(?). The cross is some sort of memorymark if I remember
things correctly.
I hope this brings some light to your question :)

"Coney Island" or "Rollercoaster"

"Corkscrew"

"Coventry Kink" (Cov's are slower than they look)

Anyone else for this one?

Oh yeah, great. R.A.S. becomes a new tower of Babel.

"I crashed at the IJs Bocht".
"Where?".
"You know, the Curve Glace".
"Oh, the Ice Curve".
"No no no, the Eis Kurve".

Looking forward to it.
