F1 2001 upgrade

by news.verizon.ne » Mon, 22 Jul 2002 22:16:24

Please refer me to the best site for a 2002 season upgrade for F1 2001.  I
just reformatted my HD and all my links are gone.  I just resubscribed to
this group, so all I have is 2 days postings.  I am sorry, I know this has
all been covered before.  I am eager to start racing again.

And you didn't back anything up, like your bookmarks?

The upgrade is called F1 2002 (he says cynically)

There again it is well worth the dosh as it's quite a big improvement over
F1 2001, speed of graphics, FF effects, the "feel" of the car, much better
AI.

Heck Biz(actually that other stronger word)
I have been computing for far too many years....back in the days of
Commodore 64's and Apple II's and Amiga's and half a dozen variations of the
PC...and I have NO FREAKIN' Idea how to back up bookmarks.
This is how it should be.  You press a button and the bookmarks are
copied.  IF or when you ever re-install a new browser or format your disk,
it should automatically ask to re-instate your old bookmarks.  since that
ain't what happens now, I've never taken the time to figure out where MS
hides the bookmarks.

F1 Relay has plenty of cars and carsets.
The 2002 carset is by Ralph Hummerich and for some reason, his site
doesn't seem to be working right now...perhaps I missed an update of his
URL.  But try later and see if this works.

C:\windows\favourites

Make a back-up copy by hand now. It sucks to lose them.

I haven't lost a bookmark or archived e-mail or contact in like 6 years.  It's really easy if you
have half a brain cell.

Sorry, but one should be able to give info to people without tagging on an
insult.
There must have been a time when you didn't know something or other too.

Aside from the "copy your favourites" folder others have suggested, or
copying bookmark.htm if you use netscape or mozilla, you can also
just:

Click on "file"
Select "import/export favorites"
Follow the dialog.

Takes 2 seconds.  Of course for some unexplainable reason IE also
keeps them all as individual files in your favorites folder.

Just FYI, Microsoft released a util called "favtool" which lets
you convert back and forth between MSIE-style favorites and
Netscape-style bookmarks. I convert the favorites to bookmarks
and periodically upload them to my home page as a backup
(see http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/2645/bookmark/). Though
I haven't uploade the latest backup files yet... once I omitted
to backup my bookmarks and the next day I had a crash and lost
them, fortunately I had a backup from a month earlier and together
with the history I could recover everything but 5 days worth of
bookmarks... Those crashes/losses happen when you have a >1MB
bookmark file, it seems, so now I'm backing up, erasing and
starting a new bookmark file every few months.

It's really easy if you
Brain cells?   I killed all those drinkin the 70's away.  Y'see there was
this girl in the small town next to mine...ran in a different crowd so I,
being the young shy lad that I was, tried to join her crowd by drinking them
all under the table, the rocks, the whatever was handy....got pretty good at
it too, just ask the State Trooper I almost ran off the road....
Fortunately I found there are plenty of folks like you Biz that have more
than enuf brain cells for me to get by.....  :)  So I've never attempted to
re-grow the little ***s....
