GSB with GPL1.2 ?

Does anyone know when we can expect a version of GameSpyBoy that is
compatable with the new GPL1.2 patch.

Does Spyboy need an upgrade in order to serve 1.2 races? I don't think
so, UNLESS they managed to change the command line commands with 1.2!
But the papy guys are sensible guys, so that can't have happened.

But I know that there is no compatiblity between 1.X.X.X and 1.2 meaning
you can't host with 1.1 clients, or you can't use 1.1 clients with 1.2
server...

Asgeir is correct; GPL 1.1 will not connect with GPL 1.2, and vice
versa.  You need to be running the same version as the server to join a
race.

VROC supports GPL 1.2 through the VROC applet.  Using a recent version
of Netscape or MS Internet Explorer, simply go to http://vroc.net.
Click on the GPL 1.1 race room, enter the path to your GPL folder in the
appropriate box, click on the MOTD button to see a race list, and join a
race by double-clicking on it.

Extensive details are available on the VROC New User and Help pages.

We are working on a version of the VROC applet which will distinguish
between 1.1 and 1.2, to make it easier for you to find races hosted with
a version of GPL which is compatible with the version you are using.

We hope that a version of GPL Spy Boy which has support for GPL 1.2 will
be available soon.

Apologies for any confusion or inconvenience.  The release of GPL 1.2 at
this time was something of a surprise for the VROC staff.

I have a few things I'd love to see in the coming Spy Boy and GPL patch:
1) It should be possible to arrange races with all cars EXCEPT one. The lotus
is fast, we all know that (and it was devastatingly fast back in -67), and it
can be useful to be able to arrange races where no lotii are allowed. Like
the Brabham should be excluded from F2 and 3 races...
2) It should be possible to save replay through the spyboy remote server
administration. The dedicated servers are often at different places than the
client boss computer, and full replays (with all cars seen opposed to the
"local" replay where you can only see 4 cars in front and one behind...) are
needed with the more serious leagues...
3) The boss should have the possiblity to restart a race. If there is a huge
pile up in the first turn (I have seen this, oh yes...), the boss should be
able to take the decision to make a restart. If we could have this feature,
we would definately use the realistic damage settings with longer races, no
doubt about that. And we can shift focus even further towards consistency...

My first point should be possible to  include (unless the command line of GPL
limits the possibilities...) in the next spyboy version. The next two are
relating to the command line limits of GPL, and I take it for granted that
there will be some time before the next patch, if there will be any at all.
But these features could be important to the internet community. And in
particular if the internet GPL racing community is to be taken seriously as a
sport. And it has got potential for that, no doubt about that, although it is
quite difficult to do doping tests.

And we need spectators as well, because that opens up a sponsor market (hmm,
ads and logos need to be transferred to all spectators as well, but that'll
have to wait for the next racing game from Papyrus... ;-)

VROC and spyboy are invaluable additions to the fantastic GPL. I think we'll
be able to cope with some confusion as well as inconvenience. No Problem.
