WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!

After all these months of high expectation, the upgrade DOES NOT WORK:

message when installing:
GPL.EXE is not a valid previous version and could not be upgraded
I have version 1.0.0.0
I have even reinstalled it (*** install with no mods)

This upgrade file downloaded quickly, have I got it all (783Kb)?

I live in UK - does this make a difference?

HELP! HELP!  please guys (and gals) HELP!!!!!!!

Sounds like you downloaded the US patch.  Do you have a US or UK
version of GPL?  If you have the UK version, you need to UK patch
which should be 814KB.

Get the Original GPL.exe from your CD.  You probably have installed
something inside the EXE previously, like the Honda/Cooper fix per example.

There were six versions of the game produced (in which markets each of
these were sold I haven't a clue): French, German, Italian, Spanish,
UK, and US, hence the six patches available on
http://www.papy.com/gpl/download/html  I don't know what version you
purchased, but it's got to be one of those.  OK, let's see... unless
the box, manual, menus, etc. are in French, German, Italian, or
Spanish, I'd venture a guess to say you have one of the two English
language versions.  Since you have the 'CD in the drive' copy
protection, it's obviously not the US version, so that leaves the UK
version.  Have you tried installing the UK patch?

What could my version be? I bought it in Finland. It is working well,
I only have to remember to put the CD there...

But why should I use any "UK" version, or a "US" version? I am not (and
never would like even to become!) either English or American!

A good advice to Sierra and Papyrus: Do not forget that you do have
(happy!) clients also outside US/UK! Many of us can even handle
your language (it is really an exception to meet any native English
speaker who can talk or write any other language!)

Mine is UK version, and I also need the CD to play. Try UK. Worked for me.

Are you wondering why there isn't a localized _Finnish_ version? Geez ...

No need to get***y ...

I had the same error message that you stated in your first post, the
solution is simply to copy the gpl.exe to your GPL folder and then run
the patch. That will definitely work. I you think about it the reason
the patch doesn't run is to do with the files it's trying to replace,
All the install wizard does when you patch the game is copy files to
the relevant directories such rast3dfx.dll, gpl.exe and a few pbf's.
You should just download the patch for your country. Also make sure
you don't have any read-only files as you would receive the same error
message.

'GPL patch not working'

Thanks for all advice,
Problem still there with UK patch. But I discovered that it was the NoCD patch
installed previously that was causing the problem.
