Jeff Reid and Andre Warringa reported mixed impressions, criticising motion blur, menu navigation without mouse support and AI, while praising the graphics and the Nordschleife; it was noted that Eero Piitulainen of Richard Burns Rally worked on the tyre model. Andrew found that setting wheel lock to 50% greatly improved the feel.

Jeff Reid posted tips on driving modes and car upgrades in NFS Shift. Andrew MacPherson enjoyed its Nordschleife and Veyron challenge despite the game elements, while Schooner and Ronald Stoehr argued its upgrades, drifting and AI made it an arcade racer rather than a sim. Uwe Schürkamp later tried the demo and found some earlier gripes fixed.
