N2 3dfx patch

ok, not to start this up again, we all know it's no where to be had.
However, I've chatted with someone who claims to have it.  If I get
it, I doubt he has it, I'll pass it along.

N2 3dfx patch

Last I heard, the N2 3dfx patch was having problems with the texture memory
on the cards, probably since it was designed for the Rendition cards with
pooled 4mb frame/texture buffer vs. most 3dfx cards having split frame and
texture buffers, and the majority of cards only having 2mb for textures.

Just an idea for Papy, if it works correctly on 3dfx cards with more texture
memory, why not release an Alpha patch clearly labeling that it requires 4
mb of texture memory.  My thinking here is those with Pure 3D's, an 8 mb
Stingray like myself, or almost-here 12mb Voodoo 2's could let at least a
few see how well the patch works and looks and maybe give 'em some feedback,
and then when they figure how to get it to run right on the majority of the
cards with 2mb texture RAM then release it as a final patch with maybe a few
tweeks from the "Alpha" testers.

Just a suggestion...

Come on people, the real reason Papyrus states that issue is because
Sierra has their own card which is called Rendition by the way.  I am
sure the Suits up in Sierra headquarters have something to do with the
decision to not release a 3dfx patch for this game.  Most companies have
dual patches for rendition, d3d, 3dfx etc...it is just a lame excuse on why
they do not plan on upgrading a patch for 3dfx support.  Sierra wants
people to buy the Screamin 3D which is a lame excuse for a 3d card
compared to a 3dfx card.

I seriously doubt that, in that while Sierra does have a rendition card, it
is one of the original V1000 chips, and is mfged for them by Canopus.
Canopus, along with Creative Labs, and Integraph, also mfg their own cards
for resale. So, there is no guarentee  of selling more Sierra cards by
holding back 3dfx, matter of fact, it would probably only help the newer
rendition cards, the 2100 and 2200,of which Sierra does not have an
offering for.
I own a Sierra Screamin 3d card, and it's a pretty darn good 3d card, as
well as 2d with the latest drivers. I also own a Canopus Pure 3d 3dfx add
on card, which I am pleased with. I've run Heavy Gear in both rendition and
3dfx, rendition on the Sierra card does a pretty good job of holding it's
own.
Just my humble opinions of course,

Not if the game is optimised for Rendition.
I run N2 and ICR2 under Rendition (Screamin' 3-D) and F1RS under 3DFX and
am perfectly happy with the graphics and frame-rates provided by both
modes.

Good lord, not THIS hoary old R.A.S chestnut again...if anyone at Sierra
thinks anyone is going to buy one of those relics with Rendition boards
running at 3dfx speeds  going for $100-125, they are sadly mistaken
Look back on Deja News or something, the *** theory here (no
coincidence the guy has the name UNABOMBER?) has been shot down repeatedly,
plus the real reason for N2 having Rendition support anyways.

I had a Rendition card just for this game, and now have a Voodoo Rush,
probably soon to be replaced with a Voodoo 2 -so yes, I want this patch
ASAP, but I want it RIGHT, and looking at the box I see nothing saying
support for anything but Rendition, so really if we do get it be thankful,
they DON'T owe it to you.
