Upgraded V2 to V3-3000: It's amazing

Hi,

Yesterday I swapped my TNT/V2 combo for a VooDoo3-3000. I have a PII-350
(o.c.'d to 366) with 128MB and must say I am pretty amazed of the performance
gain! Reading this newsgroup about the comparison I thought that you needed a
powerfull CPU next to the V3 in order to notice an increase in performance but
I can tell you this is not true.
I ran a race a Monza at 1024x768 (was 800x600) with the bias-slider halfway to
the right (was fully to the left before) and couldn't believe the quality in
a) fps and b) image quality. I now understand what the GPL goeroes in this ng
are claiming all the time: You really NEED those constant fps in order to have
control over your car and race!!! (You read it well I didn't say 36fps but
constant fps: I think that it is hard for us to adapt to a fluctuating fps and
thus belive it is better to have constant 32fps instead of a fluctuating fps
varying between for example 27-36). Since the V3 does a much better job in
keeping the fps-number constant I was able to complete a pro-race with not
that much effort and even run a PB instantly. I must say I am absolutely NOT a
hot-shot but know now that it's not 100% due to my driving quality I couldn't
be competitive.

Eldred if you're reading this: I don't know your system configuration but
don't fully blame yourself if you can't keep up with the AI-clark. If possible
upgrade your hardware, you'll be amazed!

I am a truly happy camper and become more and more impressed with GPL's
qualities too. It's a blast.
F1-2000 on the other hand looks nice but let's be honest: If I can pull away 4
seconds(!!) in qualifying from the 100% strong AI at barcelona within 6 laps
of qualifying something is wrong with it!
