gpl direct3d patch won't work

by MJS » Sat, 24 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I've downloaded the new patch but it won't work on my system. I have a
geforce ddr and directx 7.0.  It allows me to select d3d from the graphics
options but when i restart the game i don't have any menus just pictures.
All the writing has gone. If i try to enter a race by clicking the arrows
(no writing anywhere) i just get 2 big tyres on screen and the machine
freezes. Anyone else having problems ?

Did you change the core.ini settings as required by the READMED3D.TXT?

Make sure to install the latest reference drivers from Nvidia
(Detonator2 5.22).

I'm not even running 5.22 (currently at 5.16) and it is a remarkable
difference....I can't get over the difference in the mirrors)

back any problems I have. Using the OpenGL patch right now with no
problems.

Maybe because you have "force FSAA" turned on? I just tested it out
and got excellent results. Never below 36fps, sharper graphics than
using the OpenGL patch too.Thx Papy. Looks as good as Glide mose now.
Only problem was that with FSAA on the frame rate was unplayable, but
I can hardly tell the dif with it on or off, and that's the truth. I
got about 24-26fps with FSAA on, but it felt more like 8-10. Only
problem I encounterd was that I got the following error when exiting
the game the first time.
DDHELP caused an invalid page fault in
module 3DBGFD32.DLL at 015f:b00d8b03.

I ran the game 3 more times and got no error at all. DDHelp is a
Directx Helper app. Rebooted before running GPL again and never got
the error again. Running on Annihilator2 with Creative Labs 5.22
drivers. Excellent, just wish a few more developers would show the
same support and make their games work properly on non-Glide video
cards. You listening EA/Jane's? :-)

BTW, here are the settings I used in the core.ini file.Just folllow
the readme instructions.

gpl direct3d patch won't work

by Bart Westr » Sun, 25 Jun 2000 04:00:00

I had similar problems with text disappearing at will in the menus, and
distorted image out on the track, no freeze though. Cured it by upgrading
the nvidia drivers from 3.68 to Detenator 5.22, my card is a TNT1.

Another tip is this: the screen refresh rate in 3D mode was low,
probably 60Hz, vs 85Hz in Windows. From another thread I learned that the
refresh rate for Direct3D can be set with Dxdiag.exe which should be in
Windows\System. Use the Override button on the More Help tab.

Everything looks great now!

That's interesting. But, I guess that means I will have to buy next
years version of F1 2001 if we want FSAA. Maybe it won't be a problem
in GP3. :-)
