The fact is that there are more driving "sims" on the consoles than
on the PC, and in terms of gameplay they are often better. The first
driving game/sim I bought in ages (since Stunts on the 486- I liked
making my own tracks) was Gran Turismo 3 for the PS2. Unless you
refused to admit anything other than GPL being a sim, consoles have
plenty of racing sims that are pretty much identical to the PC
versions (well, except for bad resolution).
I played both Nascar HEAT and Nascar Thunder first on the
Playstation 2 (great that they have console game rentals). Nascar
HEAT is identical on the PC and the PS2, except the PC has better
resolution and graphics. Nascar Thunder was actually alot of fun and
did indeed have a career mode (that I didn't delve into much). I
liked the driving aides better in Thunder, but HEAT on the PC is
definitely better overall, at least graphicly.
The lack of features on the PC version looks to make Thunder
inferior on the PC. It looks to be a don't buy- no big improvement
over Nascar HEAT or other oval-driving sims/games, and reviews have
generally not been favorable. Usually the PC, when it get a game,
gets at least as good, or better version, and that's what gamers
expect.
