Player Breakdowns in N2

Are the player breakdowns in Nascar2 random?  I know they are only
engine failures, but I am wondering if there is anything the player
can do to increase the odds or decrease them.  i.e., turning the gear
too high during the race.

I've had 3 engine failures in the past 6 races (championship mode).
Perhaps I should set the gear a little taller, but if doesn't make a
difference, I won't bother.

thanks

Agreed. "Something let go in the engine" for me during a pace lap driving
thru the "S"'s under yellow at Sears Point. Now that's bad luck!

Most disgusting random breakdown. (Have to blame it on the Motor
builder)

A friend an I were running at Tally. Just 2 cars so we could practice
door 2 door and drafting.
My motor (Turned something loose) before the start finish line on the
pace lap.  I don't think I even reached 40 mph.
No wheel spin, nothing.  About 2 seconds of slow acceleration and Clunk.

Thanks Dave, exactly what I was looking for :)

I'm not blowing them up due to too low of gear, we're talking a notch
taller in 4th, because it's doing just as you say, just flicking the
oil pressure light at the end of the fastest straightaway.

This happens as a result of less fuel load in the car I guess.  As the
fuel load burns off, the revs seem to pick up for me...
