Kali/N2 3 or more players ???

by Phil Bowe » Sun, 05 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Has anyone out there played Nascar 2 with Kali with 3 or more players.  I'm
not asking about playability, just possibility.  I can't seem to get the
3rd player into the game without bombing the others.  Someone allways gets
disconnected.  I've hooked up multiple machines with ethernet and that
works like gangbusters, just cant seem to get kali to allow the multiplayer
games.  I've tried KaliDOS and Kali95.  I have a Rendition card and P166.
Same machine works fine over twisted pair with 2 or more 6x86's hooked to
an HP Hub.  Anyone willing to comment.  It seems as if the general opinion
is that kali wont work for much more than 3 or 4 players, I just want to
see it connect.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Phil,

I've hooked up with two other people a few times and we managed to
finish the race - warping wasn't too bad.  I connected with three people
once but it was not much fun as the warping was severe.  These races
were on Kali.  Hookups on Kahn seem to be much more stable with less
warping, but I've never raced with more than one other person on Kahn.

: One thing I've noticed is that the ping time is consistently lower in
: Kahn over Kali. Not too much though. On Kali it might be .23 sec and on
: Kahn it might be .20 sec. I had a .18 sec connection on Kahn once with
: another 28.8.

I've raced Nascar2 on Kahn with 2 players several times with good
success and very little warping.  I tried racing with 3 players only
once and one of the players was disconnected on the second lap.
Has anyone had any success racing with more than 2 players on Kahn
or Kali?
Is there a problem with N2, Kahn, or Kali and multiplayer network racing?

Mike.

I've played 3 player (myself and two other racers) games with no problems.
Four players is pushing it over a 28.8 connection, I always get warping
when I try it. The one or two times i've tried starting a 5 player race,
the 5th player is never able to connect. My theory is that 4 a 28.8 modem
doesn't have the bandwith to support more than 4 racers, although I don't
have the techincal knowledge to back it up. I'm hoping that when I get back
to school tomorrow (Thursday) with my Ethernet hookup, things will improve.
I'd love to try an 8-player race, but i'm not holding my breath. :) This is
all with Kali BTW. My machine is a PPro 200.
