Momo Wheel Questions (vs LWFF)

by bertr » Mon, 23 Dec 2002 02:59:34

I have an LWFF that I've been pretty happy with, but I've got the itch
for something newer.  Today, I saw the Logitech "Momo Racing FF Wheel"
for $99, and was thinking of picking it up.  The pedals in particular
look and seem to feel better than the LWFF's (especially the brake
pedal).

I'm interested in hearing from people who switched from the LWFF to this
wheel.  Here are my questions:

1.  Is this wheel gear-driven or cable-driven like the LWFF?  It does
support split-axis, right?
2.  Are there any particular problems in setting it up?  or in
de-installing the LWFF?
3.  Will it involve a lot of tweaking of controller settings in games
like GPL, GTR2002, etc to get it to feel right?  Or is it pretty close
to the settings for the LWFF?
4.  What are the main differences between this and Logi"s "other" Momo
Wheel?  (I don't recall it's specific name and can't find it in the
stores anyhow....)
5.  Is anyone using it in conjunction with the Act Labs GPL USB
Shifter?  Any particular problems with this combination?
6.  And finally......Do you feel that it was worthwhile switching from
the LWFF to this wheel?

Thanks!

they're (plastic) gear driven

i think it still uses the same logitech program

with any new wheel you will need to do this.  even if you bought a new lwff.

gear driven.  and yes it supports split axis.

No problems at all.  Make sure to run the utility that clears all previous
calibrations so you start fresh.

Probably.  Depends on how much realism you're looking for.  Between the
Wingman software, the game settings, and DxTweak, there are no shortage of
things to mess with trying to get the feel you're looking for.

Less money.  Plastic bushings.  Cheaper pedals.  Less precise, particularly
on return to center.  Google for an article that recently did a very
comprehensive review of the Momo FF and the Momo FF Racing.  The bottom
line was they liked them both very much.

Yes.
