Another MOMO review from a LWFF owner

Well folks, I finally got a chance to play with a momo that a friend
has recently purchased.  Firstly, I'd like to mention that he had been
playing F12001 with FF reversed!  I can't believe he didn't notice how
ridiculous it felt.  My LWFF worked fine with the default positive
value, so I'd never come across the problem before. I didn't even know
the slider went to negative...  Momo owners beware!

Pedals
======
The first thing I noticed was the pivoting heads.  This is a definite
improvement over the LWFF.  There's also a little bit more tension in
the pedals which makes quite a difference and stops ankle fatigue
considerably.  The accelerator feels 'right' but the brake could use a
lot more resistance as with the LWFF (squash ball still needed).  The
length of pedal-travel felt much the same as the LWFF - maybe an extra
mm or 2.

LWFF - 6/10
MOMO - 8/10

Wheel
=====
Now to the "hand-stitched" leather wheel.  For me, this conjured
images of nice soft plush leather.  Not the case - this leather feels
more like rock-hard, rough plastic.  The other noticeable thing is
that the wheel is not really shaped to fit your hands like the
wonderfully molded *** on the LWFF.  Aside from that, it has 6 face
buttons which do come in quite handy.

LWFF - 9/10
MOMO - 7/10

Shifters
========
Not much to say - they work well enough.  They're not quite as
"clacky" or precise as the LWFF ones but they do feel tougher and
could handle a little abuse.  Their position seems OK and I didn't
have any problems changing gears.

LWFF - 9/10
MOMO - 8/10

Force Feedback
==============
One thing I was keen to see in the momo was the gearing system for FF
as opposed to the cable system in the LWFF.  First impressions weren't
good - the momo was noisy and made a kind of 'grating' sound.  This
sound also translated to the feel of the wheel itself.  In actual
driving, it wasn't as bad as I expected, but this wheel certainly
couldn't be considered the epitome of smoothness.  The FF is very
strong and I had to turn it down to 1/4 in Rally Trophy 1.01.  In
F12001, I had it set to (-!) 20% (I have it set to 80% on my LWFF).  I
found that I was able to drive precisely in F12001 and although the
'grating' was still there, it wasn't a big distraction.  In Rally
Trophy and Rally Masters, the less subtle wrestling with the wheel did
make those gears scream a little, but then again the LWFF isn't
exactly silent when you reef it around.

LWFF - 9/10
MOMO - 7/10

Summary
=======
I guess, for me at least, the MOMO pedals with the LWFF wheel would be
the perfect combination...

Cheers

I love MOMOs 270 degrees wheel rotation. =)
It makes really easy and enjoyable to handle stock cars!
