Your best bet is to try the wheel for yourself as everyone has different
results and opionions. If you have a local Best Buy you can go there buy try
it and they will take they wheel back no questions asked. By doing this you
will know for yourself which wheel you like.

LWFF vs MSFF wheels, comment please

OK,
This isn't another "which is better". I have 2 specific questions. I already
have the LWFF, but haven't decided if I want to keep it or not.
I really like the effects in some games, not so much in others. I don't even
mind the pedals.

1) Does the MS wheel have the same 'notchy' feel that the LWFF does? With the
LWFF I can feel what I am assuming is the motor stepping. This doesn't really
matter much for some sims, but I find it very distracting in N3.

2) What are some read FPS drops when using the MS wheel? I hear this is a CPU
hog, but how about a few numbers.
Something like :
Game, FPS w/o wheel, FPS w/wheel, CPU,CPU Speed, Video Card, Resolution

for example:
        N3, 30, 25, celeron, 400, V2000, 1024x768

Nothing too detailed, just enough to help me, and hopefully someone else, make
a comparison.

Thanks for any input

I used a MSFF since it came out until I got a LWFF a couple of weeks ago -
here's what I found on my PII 450, 256MB, Voodoo3 3000, Turtle Beach Montego
II (Vortex2) .

These measurements taken with FF-on in back-to-back comparison of MSFF and
LWFF:

- GPL, LWFF increased framerate, averaging of 3-4 fps at startline (with 1.2
patch, 1024x768, full field, at back of starting grid, all features on,
detail set to 1/4, cars only in mirrors, 8 sounds - at the Ring, 27 fps
dropping to 22 after start with LWFF).

- N3, LWFF increased framerate, averaging of 3 fps at Bristol in traffic (at
1024x768).

- SCGT, no slowdown at all with LWFF and FF enabled, very choppy
(unplayable) with MSFF and FF enabled.

The MSFF has a different notchy feel from the LWFF.  Hard to describe, but
compared to the LWFF, the MSFF  'notches' feel smaller (less resistance) and
more closely / evenly spaced.  Also, there's a bit of free play in the gear
driven mechanism of the MSFF about center.

For non-FF games, I prefer the MSFF.  However, with the better framerates
and FF feel of the LWFF, I have no regrets and gave the MSFF to my brother.
