Maybe this will almost become an FF question I'm not sure...

I dunno if its my antique sound card (awe64) but when another car is
nearby on the track I find it very difficult to distinguish between my
engine/skid sounds and the other car's.
I run 5 sounds and soundquality in app.ini at 2
I have tampered with the default sounds by using carsound.exe, and i
have increased the volume of the skid.wav

Is there anything I can do about this?  Would a better sound card give
me better err positional sound?  I can't run stereo sound in gpl through
the awe64 as it crackles.

I for the most part use the skid sound as my primary source of feedback,
when I get into a close battle i find myself letting off the gas while
the car in front of me spins away from the turn lol.  I'm thinking its
me lighting up the rears.  This can also lead to a punt if i'm real
close, I find it very difficult to "watch" the fronts under braking and
just do it by ear, any skidding nearby and i can be distracted to
thinking its me locking up.

Hope the above doesn't sound too ridiculous, but there's more which I
think may be compounding the problem.  I am running in a single marque
league  Team Cooper Cup.  Hmm tho i guess thats no different to running
in an f2 or f3 league where all the engines use the same sound.

Be nice if we had a volume slider for opponents cars.  Then i'd likely
turn em right off lol

I've never tried FF but i'd assume it would come pretty close to solving
my above problem, however finances don't permit ff at this time.

Any thots or advice ppl?

Err u talking Carsound.exe Bruce.  It actually allows 7 sounds for 7
cars

its no help whatsoever in a race containing all coopers tho +(

To differentiate between the sounds, Martyn, you really need to run
distinctly different sounds for each make.  This can be done by using a
utility available on many of the dedicated GPL sites (and I'm ***ed if I
can remember its proper name!).

When you have six distinct engine notes the problem that you report
disappears.

Martyn, I know this is not really a 'fix'...but it is.

Dump that Awe64...I had tremendous problems all the time,
blamed most of them on what I thought were my crappy speakers,
then come to find out it was all my Awe64.  Soundblaster Live! much
better bet...and you can get it now for around $40-50, I think...

Cheers!
