GPL Sound Problem. Help!

by Barry Cla » Sun, 30 Aug 1998 04:00:00

I have an AWE32 and have it set to 16. I don't have any sound dropouts and
can hear the squeel of the metal rims as they're scraping the guard rails.
(Happens alot!) :)

Make sure in the options screen you do not have the sounds set to more
than *4*,  also try setting it to less than 4.

I think your problem is with Win98, if you a) kept the old HDD and ran it
from there or b) installed the demo by running the gpldemo.exe.

if a) or b) is correct, first delete the gpl folder and do it like this:

1. Unpack the gpldemo.exe to c:\gpl using winzip. (Dont run the file)
2. Copy wininet.dll from c:\gpl to c:\gpl\program
3. Make c:\gpl\program\controls directory
4. Start the game, calibrate your joystick, and set your graphic,
controller,
and audio options. Quit the game *before* going to the screen  where
the car is on the track.
5. Copy options.ini from c:\gpl\program\controls to c:\gpl\program
6. Make c:\gpl\program\options.ini not read only (uncheck in properties)
7. edit c:\gpl\program\options.ini to read:

[ Graphic Options ]
lastRasterizerDLL = rast3dfx.dll          ; Last rasterizer DLL used

[ Driving Resolution ]
height = 768                             ; Resolution height of the driving
screen
width = 1024                             ; Resolution width of the driving
screen

Substitute rast3dfx.dll (for 3dfx) with renddll.dll or softdll.dll as
appropriate (for rendition or software)

Enter resolution as appropriate (e.g. 480x640)

8. Make c:\gpl\program\options.ini read only.
9. Start the game.

Hope this helps,
Hena
