GPL Sound Problem

by Thom j » Thu, 13 Aug 1998 04:00:00

Hello Fellow Sim Racers;
I just upgraded my entire system except for my Screamin 3D card.
Specs: Asus P2L97 M-board, 266mmx Intel CPU, 64meg RAM,
Sb PCI64 sound card, SB  Voodoo II 8 meg 3fx card and O/S
Windows98.
When I had my old sb pro sound card, my 166mhz, S-3D video
card, 32megs RAM & O/S Windows 95 everything worked ok
or almost ok int Grand Prix Legends Demo.
Now with my new sytem my sound is all garbled in the demo.
Not just the start guy on the speaker but engine, shifting etc.
Can Anyone help or make any suggestions??!!
Thanx in Advance.. Thom j.

Within the GPL demo... when your in the sound options, try to not make it
higher than 4 sounds.  Since the alpha at that time had a very basic sound
system, I remember that I was told to not put it higher than 4sounds.

Well, at least try this ;-P

That's right. And to make GPL demo work with Win98 do the following:

1. Unpack the gpldemo.exe to c:\gpl using winzip. (Dont run the file)
2. Copy wininet.dll from c:\gpl to c:\gpl\program
3. Make c:\gpl\program\controls directory
4. Start the game, calibrate your joystick, and set your graphic,
controller,
and audio options. Quit the game *before* going to the screen  where
the car is on the track.
5. Copy options.ini from c:\gpl\program\controls to c:\gpl\program
6. Make c:\gpl\program\options.ini not read only (uncheck in properties)
7. edit c:\gpl\program\options.ini to read:

[ Graphic Options ]
lastRasterizerDLL = rast3dfx.dll          ; Last rasterizer DLL used

[ Driving Resolution ]
height = 768                             ; Resolution height of the driving
screen
width = 1024                             ; Resolution width of the driving
screen

Substitute rast3dfx.dll (for 3dfx) with renddll.dll or softdll.dll as
appropriate (for rendition or software)

Enter resolution as appropriate (e.g. 480x640)

8. Make c:\gpl\program\options.ini read only.
9. Start the game.
