Dual Video Cards

by Tracy De » Mon, 13 Oct 1997 04:00:00

I could use some advise.  Not too long ago, I purchased a Sierra Sreamin' 3D
card and installed in no problem; works great.  The video card that was
replaced was a Trident TGUI9440 AGI 1 MB card.  The Screamin 3D works great
with 3D games but really sucks on the older 2D games such as Hexen. Frame rate
took a big nose dive.  I have read on past threads in this newsgroup about
using two video cards.  How do you do this?  Could I re-install my old Trident
video card in a free port and use it for the older 2D games?  Can someone
explain to me how to setup my sytem to do this?

My computer specs are:

Pentium 133
Intel 82430FX PCI/ISA Motherboard w/ 256 pipeline burst cache
16 megs of RAM
plenty of extra slots.
Currently using the Screamin' 3D video card.
Soundblaster Awe64

This stuff may not be needed but I though I would post it anyway.

Hello Tracy

The dual Video card setup are more in the nature of a
Rendition with a 3DFX (Monster or Rightous). Or your Trident
with a 3DFX.

Your Rendition is a stand-alone card which does both 2D and 3D
but the two 3DFX cards I have mentioned are not stand-alone
and need a 2D card into which they plug into via a cable. The
3DFX plugs into the 2D card and the 2D card is plugged into
the monitor.

To my knowledge you cannot put back in your Trident to do the
2D stuff and keep the Rendition for 3D stuff. That would be
putting two stand-alone cards in which I'm sure would cause a
conflict. Also, which one is going to be plugged into the
monitor.

Take Care
Nigel

Windows 98 will have support for point and click use of two pci slot videos
cards.
