NFS Underground CD Problem

by M G » Mon, 01 Dec 2003 14:45:30

Sorry if this has been covered - if it has I couldn't find it. Anyway, I
have NFSU, and I can install the game fine, but when it comes to play it I
get a CD error, telling me to insert the correct CD into the drive and
restart the application. This is a known error on EA's tech support site,
but their solutions don't help. I've tried 3 different CD drives - LG and
AOpen 52x burners and an LG 16x DVD. Same thing on all of them. However, I
tried to play it on another computer using the AOpen drive and it worked
fine. For that reason I'm sure it's something else in my system that's
causing the problems. Specs are:

Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro 2 Bios version F5
Athlon XP 2500
1 GB Ram
MSI GeForceFX5600 256 MB
newest Nvidia graphics and motherboard drivers
Creative SoundBlaster Audigy Gamer, newest drivers
WinXP Pro.

Any help? I can't think of what it can be, other than some sort of
motherboard problem which I have no idea how to fix. Thanks a lot for any
suggestions.

Since I installed my Sony DVD burner, I have the same problem with all EA
games.  It's the damn copy protection.  My only solution has been to install a
NoCD crack.  Best places to look ar www.megagames.com and
www.gamecopyworld.com.

Good Luck.

When will developers learn?!  All they are doing is pissing off the
legitimate purchasers of their products!  NFSU was the second game I
purchased this week that wouldn't read past the damn copy protection
(Warlords IV was the other)!  God knows it isn't stopping the pirates!  In
fact, thank God for the pirates who provide the no-cd patches.

I acknowledge that this debate is as old as time itself, it's just been a
frustrating week :)

But he said it worked on another system.  So he must be using the correct CD...

This is exactly what I was thinking. I have a friend who offered the pirated
version, but I decided to buy it since it was something I thought I would
play a lot. Then when it wouldn't work I though I was just going to have to
use the pirated version anyway, and I wouldn't be able to return it since it
was opened. And you're right, all this stuff is certainly not stopping the
pirates.

Thanks  a lot everyone. It turns out it was the motherboard drivers. I had
updated them to the version I thought was the newest, but I hadn't realized
that a new one came out on November 3rd. Sorry to cause all the fuss. The
new nForce drivers fixed it. I wonder what changed in the mobo drivers that
was making the CD roms not recognize the discs? Some sort of copy
protection?

As to using CD 2, I was doing that, but thanks anyway for the tip. My only
thought is that for people that don't install the entire game, the part you
would need to access from the CD would be on CD2, so they make everyone use
that as the copy-protection checking CD.

Anyway, thanks again for the help.
