Ever since Porsche unleashed, the series has gone downhill fast.
I'm normally the first person to complain about physics in racing games
(more importantly, the handling model, which includes controller factors),
but i can handle arcade if it's done well. For instance:
Arcade being arcade: Burnout 2. Great fun, easy to drive with the gamepad.
NFS:U fits here too, good with the gamepad, and i don't expect any more of
it. Daft slides, neon lights, and chicks waving their arms around... all
without the inhibitions of a half arsed sim tyre model, or any physics to
ruin the fun.
Arcade trying sim: Toca race driver. Impossible to drive with the gamepad..
or the wheel. Horrible feel, really lets down the great visuals, sounds, and
damage model. It's a useless game, and a useless sim, kinda like CMR 3.
V-Rally 3. Oh dear god... fishtails of doom. The worst handling model i've
felt since i drove STCC (STCC has been released several times with different
graphics, namely: rally masters, stcc2, v8 challenge, and rallisport
challenge).
So all in all, if the handling fits the purpose, it's fine. NFS:U is
definitely one of the better handling NFS's, and although it doesnt compare
with NFS:PU for simminess, i think it's right up there with it as a whole.
In fact, with the online support, i think i may be playing it more than i
did PU.

You know what, you actually convinced me to install that demo yet! Well, not
right now, but some day when I'm reeeally bored... ;-)

Just to be clear ... it's from the PUBLISHER of GTA ... completely
different developer.
>>For adrenaline-pumping arcade fun in vehicles.... have you tried
>>Midnight Club 2 ? From the designers of GTA3/Vice City.

Nevertheless, still a great racing-game experience that doesn't
take itself too seriously..........

Fun game, Midgnight Club II, but the latest stages are frustratingly
difficult.. close to impossible :-/

GTA3, on the other hand, is developed on the other side of the planet,
in a Rockstar office (formerly "DMA") in Scotland.
Great game!
Andre
Me too, and I can't get the controllers to work properly in the game, it
doesn't save any settings when you exit, and the intro/exit sequence is
frustratingly long. Anyone know how to fix this stuff?
