Ferrari force feedback problems with Colin Mcrae 2.0

by John Do » Mon, 15 Apr 2002 04:52:59

Hi,

I have a problem for very long time now which drives me nuts. When playing
Colin Mcrae rally 2.0 with my Guillemot Ferrari Force Feedback wheel the
force feedback effects stop after about a minute or two and the steering
hangs (only full in one particular direction - I can't select the menu
anymore either because it keeps running around). I downloaded the 1.09 patch
from Codemasters and the latest drivers from Thrustmaster (= same as
Guillemot). I have the same problem on two different computers (one running
Windows ME and one running wiht Windows XP). In Midtown Madness the wheel
runs flawlesly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,
I have the same wheel and have no problem with CMR2. I find the revolving
menu's and other problems with certain games, are normaly caused by having
"Operate pedals seperately" ticked in the steering wheels options menu.
Change this to un-checked, and it *may* work. Hope this is some help.

Andrew...........:-)

Thanx for the reply. This doesn't solve my problem though. Are you using USB
or the gameport?

Greetings, Harrie

Hi John,

Sorry to hear it hasn't solved your problem with the game. I use USB for my
wheel. I must say that I love this wheel, and I never get any problems with
driving games as a rule. I drive SCGT, GP3, NASCAR HEAT (Mods/Road courses
<g>), GPL, CMR1, CMR2 and a pile more I can't think of right now. I will try
and have a think what eles it may be, though it seems strange you only have
problems with this one game. Sorry I can't be of more help. Try Heat and all
it's mods instead eh? I like rally games too, but I got a bit fed up of
CMR2's acarde type physics etc. Nice GFX though!

Bye,

Andrew

Ferrari force feedback problems with Colin Mcrae 2.0

I now have the same problem. I've had this install of Win2k for about six
months and my Ferrari FF wheel has been fine but since yesterday it just
cuts out completely not only in CMR2 but other DX games such as Viper racing
and F1RC. I've tried installing and re--installing drivers but to no avail.
I tried cahning to serial from usb but it wouldn't install that way.

Does anyone have answer (apart from the Microsoft answer to everything on
format and re-install Windows)

At least it is still working in GPL

Glad to see someone else having problems with this wheel. My wheel was
great, but hasn't been used for about 7 months (no where to put it,
doing non racing stuff, but I've just upgraded and wanta play again).
Anyway I'm running Win2k pro, on a nforce415 motherboard (no via
problems), the wheel is using the USB port (can't get the serial to
spot!!). Wheel drivers FFBRW_98Me2KXP_236.exe, control panel|joysticks
sees it fine, however the wheel stops responsing in viper, N4, & cm2
(haven't put GPL bck on yet), powering off the wheel and back on works
(followed by re-configure) but that's no good in the middle of the pack.
Even just pluging the wheel in and leaving it alone, after 10-20 mins
the directX joystick config in control panel will see it connect ok, but
can't read the inputs without power off/on on the wheel.
I've spoke to 2 other ppl at work and both of them have problems with
joysticks lock ups in any *non-microsoft* game.
BTW using DX8.1 (and need too so my graphics card works) is this the
problem.
Are there any better wheel drivers out there?

cheers

Steve (currently having real problems using a gamepad in N4 :-()

I was trying to find out info about this problem yesterday and someone on a
forum was saying that it is due to a conflict with graphics card drivers.
This seems to ring out true with myself. As I said I've had this
installation of Windows 2000 for over six months with no problems at all but
this last week FF has gone***up all of a sudden. However this last week
I've had to temporarily swap my good ol GeForce DDR agp card for a GeForce2
MX PCI card and it's since then that I've had problems with FF. The drivers
I was running with my GeForce DDR were 23.11 detonators but I've not had a
problems with earlier ones. When I swapped to the GeForce2 MX PCI card I put
on 27.50's and now FF drops out in DX games, yesterday I upped to 28.32 but
still have the problem. Hopefully my shinny new GeForce
4400Ti should arrives this week which is the reason I temporally put in the
PCI card until it arrives and hopefully I should be back to normal.

I'll keep you posted if this swap cures the problem. I might in the mean
time
try out older detonator to see if that helps.

<snip everything>
Bit of an update guys.

The serial port is never going to work in win2k, XP, or anything but 95
according to the immersion drivers

This is taken from the 2.3 drivers.

I've got further with my lock ups by disabling full acceleration on the
sound card hardware setting (dxdiag) now at standard and turned of all
the 3D sound /EAX. It seems better, but I not sure yet. I know that my
onboard sound and USB both share and IRQ so I think I'm on the right track.

I got my New GeForce 4 4400Ti the other day and after installing with 28.32
detonators I still had the same problem with the FF droppping out. However I
managed to cure the problem. I quit simply re-installed DX 8.1 again and hey
presto it works again. Intsalling new detonator graphics drivers must have
overwritten some file or setting somewhere. I sudjest you guys give it a go.

I hope it works for you as it's done for me.

A now very happy

BTW Colin McRae Rally 2 looks and runs better than ever on GeForce 4, FSAA
and bump mappping at 1600x1200!
