Problem with MS Precision wheel after installing Colin Mcrae 2.0?

Anyone else get where after installing CM 2.0 their wheel is no longer
detected by the joystick applet in windows 98? It shows in device
manager, but won't show in the control applet and works in no games.
It was fine prior to installing CM 2.0. Dammit!

Problem: When I run the game I get an error in the HID.DLL file.

Solution: You need to extract the HID.DLL from the Windows '98 Cabs. To copy
this file in to the C:\Windows\System\ directory and overwrite the existing
HID.DLL please follow the instructions below.
Place the Windows98 CD in the drive. Now go to Start then Run and where it
says 'Open' enter SFC and click OK.
Click on 'Extract one file' and enter HID.DLL. Now click the Start button.
Where it says 'Restore from' this should be the location of the Windows 98
CD. So If your CD-ROM drive is letter 'Q' it would read 'Q:\WIN98\.
You don't need alter the 'Save file in' item. After this click on OK
Now it will ask you to back up the HID.DLL file. Make a note of the
directory if need be and then click on OK, then click yes to create the
Folder.
Now restart your PC and everything should now be Ok.

Thx for that. I did go to the Codemasters website and look for any
info on this problem, but must have missed it. Meanwhile I decided to
do a format and reinstall an image file. Turns out I installed an old
image file from before I put in a second HD. ***ed up my partitions
somehow and had to do an fdisk and reinstall from scratch. I lost some
digital photos I had stored too. I appreciate you posting the fix
above, but I'm still pissed at Codemasters for letting this slip
through in the first place. It's cost a few hours down time and loss
of some important files. Codemasters: Genius At Play. Yea sure....
